Rocky Star autumn/winter 2017 collection presentation for LFW

Rocky Star put on quite a show with their AW17 collection presentation at the Freemason’s Hall on the opening day of London Fashion Week.

Entitled VIDA,  the sanskrit word for discovery, the designer’s presentation took on a poetic turn with accompanying literature opening with Plato’s line: “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” and detailing that the collection speaks the path of the soul “moving through time and places, to uncover and discover the true nature of beauty.”

And the pieces displayed were infused with a sense of a fairytale, the old world, a lost era of grandeur, with textured laces, detailed embroideries and decorative prints sweeping down stunning floor length gowns and cutting across fitted body-sculpting mini-dresses. Such dramatic silhouettes were accentuated with ethereal long trains and statement velvet court-style heels.

Hints of the baroque and and gothic were conjured via the opulent fabrics with empire line velvet bands cutting across ethereal silks and laces. Deep burgundies contrasted with dusty greys and tones of beige. Final pieces changed moved into ivory and black with more abstract designs of layered ruffles.

The sentiment of days gone by were emphasised by the historical setting of the Freemason’s hall, whose high ceilings and wall filling portraits provided a impressive backdrop.

Though ambitious in style and influence, a modern interpretation of classical design creates extremely wearable, accessible elegance that is flattering and comfortable but will still make a room stand still. Exquisite.
