House of Holland’s AW17 collection catwalk show went off with the expected pomp and hype on the third day of London Fashion Week at the Topshop Showspace at Tate Modern.

The industrial concrete cavernous space of the Tate’s new Switch House provided an unusually spacious and edgy setting for a catwalk show, with the large circular runway done out with giant cartoon stars and arrows to set off the collection entitled Daddy! Where’s My Car?.

Celebs schmoozed around the front row, with Kate Bosworth donning one of the designer’s signature shirt dresses and giving interviews alongside Agyness Deyn.

Dubbed “hip hop attitude with a country heart” the collection was dominated by the cowboy aesthetic, pimped up in loud, proud colours and clashing prints.

Models strutted in calf to thigh high cowboy boots, rocked cowboy hats and tassel fringing lined the back of shirts. Check, pin stripe and cartoonish stars decorated fabrics. Printed satin and denim, mohair knits, Mongolian long hair shearling and cobweb guipure lace created a whirlwind of textures.

Pastel colours, cutsy cherry prints and mini tartan skirts paired with fishnets emphasised the naughty girl look while signature text “Daddy”, “Bitches: Let’s get loaded” was scrawled across hood fronts and down sleeves.

Oversized velvet puffas and fur jackets were worn over hand embroidered evening dresses. The brand’s distinctive flares were produced in red lyrca. Exaggerated statement shades with coloured lenses rounded off the look. But the real star of show was the iconic Woody Woodpecker who was splashed across the back of bomber style jackets, the arms of dresses and brazenly sitting on top of thigh-high boots.

Henry Holland’s latest collection is riotous, irreverent and fun-loving: fashion without apology.
