The Alexis Carballosa showcase was an exploration of the sea and its endless sources of inspiration.
It was an explosion of shiny ruffled blazers in turquoise, maxi skirts resembling seaweed, sculptural headdresses and translucent capes which created a dreamy and deep effect. The gowns presented here were ones that could be worn by musicians with theatrical performance and on red carpet.
Blue tulle and silver pleating were the dominant players here, which asserted a certain level mermaid like charm. The AW17 collection felt like a submersion into the hidden depths of the underwater world in comparison with the limitless universe.
Through her signature draping of gossamer fabric she creates voluminous sleeves and skirts, in occasionally asymmetric shapes. The algae motifs throughout the collection tie the whole collection together with the underwater theme, and the title of the show Unbound represents the free spirited nature of the garments and the people who wear them.
With tones of blue, green and black, the collection explored all aspects of sea life including mermaid like looks, and the depths that are too dark to see. You could also see the influence of fishnets, the foam of waves in the ocean as well as different species of fish.
