Clio Peppiatt’s Love Rat AW17 presentation for London Fashion Week brought some punky urban vibes to the underground RSA venue.

Having only launched her eponymous brand in 2015, Peppiatt’s designs have already enjoyed cult notoriety, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Girls writer and star Lena Dunham and singer Charli XCX among her fans.

A contemporary take on the ultimate love story of star-crossed Romeo and Juliet, this collection draws on the millennial search for love, preoccupied by the scepticism and anticipation created by dating apps, and challenge of skirting the fleeting desire of a love rat to find true love.

No rules applied to the basement party collection as colours, prints and textures were layered and clashed, clothes hung boyishly loose while also baring flesh, and girly looks were immediately tested and undermined by daring punk edges.

Tongue-in-cheek giant hand painted pink smiley faces were rolled around, glitter balls thrown in the air, and shapes thrown to a heavy beat by the rebelliously styled youthful models.

Some loitered and danced by low-fi screens showing a short film documenting the emotions experienced by one millennial lover awaiting her digital-dating-match.

Signature embellishments and embroidery featured, such as on a Chinese inspired red silk jumpsuit zipped up to a collared neck with “love rat” sewn on the front and back.

An entirely sheer disco ready dress adorned with gold glitter stars fully revealed a bare chest while a pale pink floor length one was matched with a mesh leotard underlayer and worn with a bright yellow faux fur coat and collared yellow shirt.

Floaty skirts with cartoon graphics were paired with embroidered streetwear jumpers and fishnets while a purple velvet dress was worn with a black printed blouse underneath. Faux fur was made edgy appearing in star pattening as a hooded coat and an outlandish blue, black and grey stole.

Retro 80s-inspired pastel shaded hair, garish multicoloured eyeliner and eyeshadow, and Converse finished off the seemingly careless, caution to the wind smashing together of styles.

Anything but subtle, this is expressive, creative and rebellious urban wear for women who refuse to take life too seriously and want to tell the world they’ll wear what they like.
