Lekat autumn/winter 2017 collection presentation for LFW
As an ambassador of sustainable fashion and creative director of LEKAT, Amanda Indah Lestari exhibits her Fashion Scout presentation ‘Moments: Reserved.’ For the presentation she is collaborating with last years ‘One to Watch’ winner, Billie Jacobina, sharing an admiration for cultural heritage and craftmanship and celebrating the beauties of differences and tolerance.
Inspired by the Indonesian folklores, Putri Mandalkika and Nyi Roro Kidul, Billie’s bold prints and patterns visually build the narrative for the collection, while Amanda incorporates tradition and innovation by transforming textiles through shapes and colour scheme. The collection features checked patterns, frayed edges and layering of materials, which allows the looks to be flattering and feminine yet remain modern and interesting. The innovative tailoring featured cropped trousers and jackets, high neck scarves and bold coloured pockets to add detail, creating different shapes in the collection.
Amanda says, “the presentation will be fluid: film footage of the woman weavers will be interspersed with the LEKAT-wearing models on stage.” This allows the collection to be viewed close-up with every detail appreciated, as the models leave the stage and circle throughout the audience, effectively connecting the culture of Indonesia that reveals stories of dreams, determination and success, through this presentation.
The beauty of woven work by the Baduy people, who are situated in the western part of Banten, Indonesia, is presented as the force behind the fashion, integrating traditional textiles into modern designs that combines comfort and elegance with an eco-ethical promise. Amanda describes the message of the brand, and the inspiration for the name of the presentation, to be moments. When you wear the designs you evolve into experiences as each outfit is a tool of transformation. Amanda states, “I design with future-forward mindset in the present-while showcasing the story of the past.”
Lekat presented their new 2017 collection at the Freemasons’ Hall for London Fashion Week. Here are our images from the show.
