The masters of motorcycle chic brought LFWM to a final point with their spring/summer 2018 collection entitled Paris to Dakar’ which was a combination between modern performance and retro graphics and prints. The dual gender presentation took place at the Somerset House, where the sharpness of the leather jackets blended with the softness of the floral dresses. The inspiration for the collection was the 10,000 km Dakar rally, which is known for its extreme conditions and inherent danger that bring excitement to the participants. Similar to the rally, the collection encapsulated a journey through different cultures, climates and terrains.
The dynamic collection included vintage elements such as the classic motocross racing stripe on the leather collection. However, the garments featured innovative materials and textures in order to reach a lighter, summer feel. In Paris to Dakar, Belstaff used new fabrics, in order to create trans-seasonal jackets that are lightweight, windproof and waterproof. Also, the creative director of the brand, Delphine Ninous states: “The iconic outwear of our brand continues to evolve, with the classic silhouettes reinterpreted.” Belstaff’s new collection communicates the idea of living fast and free, even in a dangerous and unpredictable world.
As the rally reaches the capital of Senegal, Dakar, Belstaff’s shifts the style of the collection accordingly. The brand encapsulated the romance of the North African scenery through floral dresses and a colour palette that was extended from soft pastels to vibrant tones of burnt orange. Snake prints were mixed with the vintage red stripes resulting in an exotic, vibrant and energetic feeling that captivated the audience.
