Cyberdog has got competition. Katie Eary’s SS18 show in collaboration with BOY, Spliffy and Pretty Green was choc-a-block with the sexiest Day-Glo, High-Vis and Sci-Fi, making it literally unmissable.
For Eary, this spring/summer offering is about injecting fun back into streetwear and boycotting “po-faces and couture prices”. That it does. Set to a soundtrack of Spaceman by Babylon Zoo, mixed with Travis Scott’s Goosebumps featuring Kendrick Lamar, the Hacienda-esque collection was a mix of nostalgia and space age futurism.
Taking streetwear back to its accessible and utilitarian heritage, that Eary remembers growing up, this collaboration with three very different British streetwear brands brought us everything from reflective waterproof jackets to neon mesh vests.
It’s not all about utility though, very visible silk boxers and tropical print-pyjamas contrast low-slung overwashed denim, Spliffy-printed hoodies and neon travel bags.
Taking maximalism to another level, Eary didn’t disappoint us with this season’s prints. A tropical exhibition, creepy crawlies adorn bomber jackets and bottoms, creating a fresh emerald green camouflage. Butterflies also covered barely-there bikinis, straight-leg trousers and flight jackets, proving that they’re not so girly after all.
