Globelle by Nelly Rose spring/summer 2018 collection presentation for LFW
Nelly Rose’s presentation, Globelle, has a simple stage setting, decorated with assorted shapes in bright contrasting colours complimenting the colours of the collection. There is no defining colour palette here; all colours have been considered alongside a monochromatic backdrop to create a visually appealing rainbow, perhaps to reflect the global inspiration for the pieces. Taking influence from her travels in Guatemala, Japan and Palestine, Nelly Rose’s passion for the processes learnt from these countries is clear and she respectfully takes inspiration and turns it into her own.
Intricate beaded chokers and detailing in vibrant tones accentuate monochromatic backdrops in loose unstructured shapes. Eyes and hands are a theme, recurring in the bold calligraphy brush strokes as well as the laser-cut earrings hanging delicately from the models’ ears. The entire effect is a playful graffiti-like effect, invoking thoughts of freedom of thought and unleashed creativity. The standout piece was a black and mixed metal coat covered in pink, blue and green brushstrokes; a perfect blend of wearable and striking.
The models in this show are unlike a standard fashion week model, instead their personalities shine through whilst they chat and dance happily to the background music and roam freely around the space. This perfectly reflects the merging of global techniques into a series of beautifully blended pieces and promotes a message of togetherness and girl power.
