Sadie Williams spring/summer 2018 collection presentation for LFW

Sadie Williams’s collection is inspired by a world of outdoor adventure and free spirits, made evident by the foliage and large patterned tent like structure amidst the models. Blocky boldness, punches of colour and stencil silk screen prints add a whole new meaning to the term “glamping” and “outdoors clothing”.

The pieces could be described as having a “disco meets meadow” theming which is significantly evident through a sequinned co-ord beneath an oversized khaki printed jacket. It can also be seen through a khaki vest and short combo, complete with eyelet detailing, neck scarf and adorned in patched.. This Girl Scout inspired look is accessorised with a silver hat which really entwines Sadie’s intention of mixing rustic pieces with glimmering girlishness, whilst also appearing futuristic in appearance.

Braided hair and Dr.Martens shoes accompanied by knee high sheer socks are prevalent amidst the organic motifs and muted hand-dyed hues, giving the organic styles a harsher edge. Bold eye make-up in red or silver glitter act as the antithesis to hand collaged prints, hand dyed fabrics, appliqué and stencil silk screen prints. Khaki trousers patched with red and blue are accompanied by a khaki jumper with stripe and motif design, and accessorised with coloured strands of blue and red affixed to the end of sleek braided hair, encapsulates the “girls take a hike” concept of fashionable outdoor wear.

The stand out piece that really draws on Sadie Williams’s inspiration of the Kindred of the Kibbo Kift is a hooded blue top and wide leg pant combination, featuring red eyelet lacing along the legs and chest; all of which is accompanied by a large wooden staff which is meant to reiterate the free-spirited and outdoorsy nature of Sadie’s collection.

Williams’s intention of sparkling, vivid fabrications is further evident through a red and white knitted jumper with striped sleeves, paired with a glimmering girlish silver skirt. The whole ensemble is given the rustic roughness through being paired with Dr. marten boots fixed with silver buckles with give a punch of strength to a somewhat feminine combination.

Sadie Williams cleverly combined the free-spirited movement with energetic colours, organic motifs and vivid fabrications to create a collection that shows modern craftsmanship and fashion itself as being elemental. She incorporates the functionality and details of outdoor clothing but gives them a new glimmering girly twist.
