Golden Globes 2018: Red carpet
Late in 2017, the world received the news that a great deal of the actors due to attend the 75th annual Golden Globe awards, were all set to wear black in solidarity of the now widely known Time’s Up campaign. This is a movement started against sexual harassment in response to the countless allegations of misconduct that surfaced at the latter part of 2017, namely within the Hollywood film and entertainment industry.
Some members of the public were sceptical about the alternate dress code, with many asking the question, “How will this help?”. Understandably, on the surface, merely changing the colour of your gown may appear an empty gesture. It may seem as though this will have no way of truly changing the real issues at hand.
However, it was this small change to the exterior of the awards that prompted an entire shift in tone for the evening. As the red carpet was enveloped in a sea of black, the world was taking notice and on the inside it sparked an ongoing conversation throughout the night. It allowed everybody a glimpse at the beginning of what we all hope to be the end for those who up until now have abused their position of power. The night concluded with an understanding that real change is needed, and absolutely is coming.
The true beauty of the event was seeing such a prominent group of people using their collective influence to send a message of integrity and of strength, though in true Hollywood style, attendees still made sure to pull out all of the stops on the style front.
Here are some of the standout looks from the night.
