Smiths of Smithfield relaunches with four floors of unique dining and drinking experiences
A Farringdon staple, Smiths of Smithfield has opened its doors once again after a refurbishment which has breathed new life into the historic Grade II-listed building.
Smiths boasts four full stories of varied dining and drinking experiences. In many ways, it feels like going from one floor to the other takes you to an entirely different establishment with entirely different rules. As we enter the ground level on the night of the venue’s re-opening, we are immediately surrounded by things to see and try. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant and a live band plays remixed covers of pop hits in the corner, a welcome addition to the well-stocked and accommodating bar.
One floor up is the much quieter Death + Victory cocktail bar, which serves up all manner of alcoholic concoctions with similarly grandiose titles – such as the refreshingly sour Freedom, and the sumptuously sweet Uncertain Times. It’s no wonder the volume is lower: conversation becomes secondary to the drinks.
Go up another flight and you have The Grill, which taps into the history of the location as a meatpacking district, offering prime cuts and a wine menu which highlights the best choice to pair with your order. And finally, on the top floor, there’s the No 3 Restaurant and Terrace. Here, you’ll get a finer dining experience paired with great views of the city. Just as with The Grill below, the produce is locally sourced, but on this level, the focus is elegance.
Overall, Smiths of Smithfield offers something very rare. To have what is effectively four different dining and drinking establishments under one roof is no small feat. Whether you’d rather relax with some unique cocktails or decadently take in the London skyline with an order of Wild Octopus Carpaccio, this venue has got you covered.
