While you can soak in the beauty of the gardens by the day, it is at night when it truly comes alive with a spectacular display of lights. You can take a walk along the OCBC Skyway which connects two supertrees. This 128-metre walkway provides you with some of the most scenic views of Singapore.
2. Singapore flyer
When you see the Singapore Flyer, you may recognise it from watching Formula One races. This iconic ferris wheel forms an important part of the backdrop of the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. Also known as Asia’s largest observation wheel, the Flyer offers a panoramic view of the Singapore skyline.
You can choose from a number of packages, including the opportunity to sip on champagne while you take in the sights of Singapore.
3. Merlion Park
What is the point of visiting Singapore if you don’t take a picture next to its iconic Merlion? This half-fish and half-lion statue is an unmissable icon in Singapore. The body is representative of Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village and the lion is a call to its original name Singapura or the Lion City. The view of Singapore from the park is breathtaking and if that isn’t enough, you can also take a river cruise from the park to explore other Singaporean landmarks.
4. Universal Studios Singapore
Experience the glitz, glamour, and action of the movies by visiting Universal Studios located within Resorts World Sentosa. The place is perfect for individuals, couples, and families since it has something for everyone.
From strolling down the Walk of Fame, meeting your favourite movie characters, and enjoying the thrills of the theme park, you can spend the entire day at Universal Studios and still feel like it isn’t enough. If you go there any time before 21st August, you can immerse yourself in the world of velociraptors and other dinosaurs at their latest Jurassic World live-action show.
If you are going later in the year, then don’t forget to brave the Upside Down from the Netflix original dram Stranger Things as part of their Halloween Horror Nights. This attraction is open from 28th September to 31st October.
5. CHIJMES
Lawns, marble waterfalls, and buildings that hark to a bygone era. CHIJMES once served as an all-girls’ convent in the 1800s and at one point even housed an orphanage. The Gate of Hope, which still stands today was where the orphanage began.
Today, the building sequesters idyllic restaurants and bars. But despite the modernity, there is a sense of tranquillity that washes over you which reminds you of a more gracious period.
6. Esplanade: Theatres on the Bay
If you are looking to soak in some culture while in Singapore, then a visit to Esplanade is a must. Since opening its doors in 2002, the durian-shaped performing arts centre has revolutionised the arts and music scene in Singapore. If you are lucky, you may be able to catch a ballet performance or a concert by a local band. The best part? Most of the time, these performances are free of cost.
7. Singapore Zoo
Breakfast with the orangutans. No, this isn’t the name of a new television show, but it is something you can do while at the Singapore Zoo. This unique experience includes transportation to and from your hotel and allows you to explore the zoo for half a day at leisure. If you don’t want to have breakfast with the residents of the zoo, then you can still enjoy one of the world’s best rainforest zoos and observe the animals being fed. There is also a night safari, a river safari, a giant panda forest, and the Jurong Bird Park for you to explore!
There are at least a dozen or more places to visit in Singapore, but that’s for another time. For now, make sure that if you are going to Singapore this year these seven destinations are on your list. If a worry-free holiday is what you are looking for, then the Lion City is the right place to be.
