Ways to save money on clothes
Clothes are something that every individual needs. Some people need more wardrobes than others. Some people are just addicted to shopping. Whatever the situation is, there is going to come a time when you have to go out and shop for clothes. This will not be an inexpensive venture. In fact, recent studies show that the average American family spends right around $1,700 (£1,490) a year on clothes. This might not sound like a lot, but just think how much this accumulates to over a small five-year period. Whether you are putting yourself on a budget or you are just looking to save a little money, you can do so with the following tips.
Sell your old clothes
There is a good chance that you already have some clothes in your closet. If you aren’t wearing them, they aren’t doing you any good just sitting there. You can either sell them at a yard sale or you can sell them to a consignment shop. Consignment shops won’t give you the money up front for the clothes, but once they sell you will get a cut of the profits. It might not be the full amount either, but at least it is something that you can contribute towards your new wardrobe.
Hit up the thrift stores
People sometimes think they are above shopping in thrift stores, but there are some good quality clothes and deals in these types of stores. Sure, the clothes have been donated, but who cares when you can find a pair of name brand jeans at a knock-off price. These stores even sometimes have weekly sales where you can even find more discounts.
Hit up the Internet for coupons
Whether you are looking to delete paid collections or you are looking to save money on clothes, there is no better option than turning to the Internet for help. Not only will you be able to find better deals online most of the time, but you can also find coupons for retail stores. Some retail stores even offer major discounts if you shop online with them. Just hit up the retail store that you are interested in and see if they are offering any printable coupons. These coupons usually change weekly as well, so be sure to come back and check their page on a weekly basis. If you have an iPhone or Android device there are even some coupon locating apps available for download.
Always look at the tag
If you find a shit or a skirt that you are just in love with, you want to check the tag before your just blindly buy it. If the tag says dry-clean-only, you really might want to rethink your invest. You will be paying for this piece of clothing for as long as your own it.
Shop out of season
It is always best to plan and prepare ahead of time. If you know that you are going to need a new coat this winter, you can go ahead and buy it during the summer. Clothing retail stores usually put clothes that are out of seasons on clearance. You can apply the same technique to shopping for summer clothes. If you know you are going to need new shorts, buy them in the wintertime.
