Livia Tang autumn/winter 2019 collection presentation for LFW
Livia Tang, a London-based designer fronting a young contemporary brand, presents her autumn/winter collection at London’s largest indie clothing presentation, Fashion Scout.
While the eponymous label is based in London, Livia herself hails from Macau. As soon as the presentation starts, it becomes evident that a lot of her inspiration is derived from the place she calls home. The display sees a number of models in a combination of darker hues and pinks take turns demonstrating a traditional tea ceremony.
The presentation also delivered a number of different looks that perfectly illustrate a young and romantic aesthetic whilst drawing on a number of different cultural connotations, perhaps the most identifiable of which is the rope. This is a recurring symbol in the presentation, appearing on the invitation, on the straps of a pinstripe shift dress and even as the handle on a floral handbag.
The rope not only illustrates Livia’s adoration for genuine craftsmanship but can also be read as a symbolic representation of the conjoining of cultures that Livia appreciates so much: one of the models demonstrating the tea ceremony wears a floral pink jumpsuit, an evident mix of traditional dress with the western stereotype of a tailored black shirt.
The various elements of the presentation not only demonstrate the conjoining of cultures that a rope signifies, but are also a testament to the wonderful things that can be produced with a mix of cultures.
