Ones to watch autumn/winter 2019 collection catwalk show for LFW
The four winners of the Ones To Watch Award for London Fashion Week AW19 – 1×1 Studio, Aurelie Fontan, Bowen Hu and Shie Lyu – delivered their four distinctive collections today. Created in 2014, this collaborative show is a unique platform for the brightest emerging designers and plays a crucial role in raising the profile of new design on a global scale.
Each label offered their own particular style, starting Shie Lyu, who for this collection played the role of a mathematician, using her precise “formulas” and “tools” to create a new modern and romantic couture collection. The intricate use of unusual materials like molded Perspex, rubber and heat-shrunk industrial tubing were just a few of her techniques.
Aurelie Fontan, on this occasion, represented a utopia for the fashion of the future. From textiles created from living organisms to drawing robots, her highly feminine and textured silhouettes demonstrated how innovation can be combined with luxury, ready-to-wear and couture. Recycled materials were used during the first part of her show, while the second was produced entirely through a smartphone.
1×1 Studio has perfected its craftsmanship and signature knitting techniques. In this collection the label studied architecture, art, film and lifestyle from the present back to the 80s, focusing on the state of the art technology. Being conscious of the rapid circle of fashion, they used recycled materials and reduced waste during design and production to maintain sustainability.
Bowen Hu’s closing show Lucid Dream took inspiration from the world of one’s subconscious mind and brainwave patterns. Neutral and settling colours ran throughout the collection, giving the viewer a relaxed feel so that the audience could fully interact with the garments via the senses by seeing, touching and listening.
