Dragged Across Concrete: An interview with S Craig Zahler and Tory Kittles
In follow-up to his bold and brazenly violent Brawl in Cell Block 99, starring an unrecognisable Vince Vaughn, which in turn followed furious debut feature Bone Tomahawk, comes S Craig Zahler’s Dragged Across Concrete. Zahler returns with Vaughn as Anthony Lurasetti and adds to his testosterone-fulled lead cast a world-weary Mel Gibson as fellow city cop Brett Ridgeman and Tory Kittles (American Heist, True Detective) as Henry Johns. He continues to display his particular craft for impressively extensive set-pieces, horror-thriller-gore genre mash-up and slow-burn drama in this dark representation of the morally twisted and grotesque underbelly of a corrupt society.
We sat down with S Craig Zahler and actor Tory Kittles to discuss the director’s idiosyncratic approach to movie-making, how he sees the representation and power of violence on screen and what the film’s impact might be on viewers.
