Hill and Friends spring/summer 2020 collection presentation for LFW
From Somerset House’s Portico Rooms, Hill and Friends present Made in England – the SS20 collection that celebrates the brand’s homegrown credentials. Previously tucked away, this season the inside label of the manufacturer is either discretely embossed directly onto the product, or featured in an oversized blind emboss which fills the frame of the new hinged square lock clasp.
With each of the four new styles named after an unsung British female artist (Riley, Cecily, Minibell and Hepworth), the bold geometric silhouettes truly pay tribute to British artistry.
Each of the new designs offers something different to the wearer. The Minibell is a unique half-moon shape which breaks from the strong geometry of the other designs, available in a small range of eye-catching bright colours. The Hepworth tote delivers a shape-shifting silhouette for daily convenience, with short and longer handles transforming the bag’s shape from open to closed and triangular at a moment’s notice. The Cecily is a happy medium of size within the range, with side gussets that can be extended to create a bold symmetrical shape, or folded in to create a boxier appearance. But in comparison to the stand-out Riley, the Cecily somewhat gets lost.
The Riley is a small shoulder bag with a strong geometric shape, the newly developed square flip-lock clasp – which is a distinctly unique feature – and an adjustable strap which could be removed to create a clutch. The fantastic range of colours – from monotone to stand-out block colours (oxblood and bright red is a favourite), from black shiny emboss croc leather to bright neon pink or classic leopard print – naturally makes this bag a versatile and desirable item for any style, occasion or situation.
