Five reasons to play classic World of Warcraft
If you never played Vanilla World of Warcraft and joined the game during one of the later expansions, you may feel disconnected from the current hype around Classic WoW. Retail WoW and Classic WoW are two very different games, both in the look and feel, and the gameplay mechanics. If you’re enjoying Battle for Azeroth, you may be wondering whether you’d even enjoy Classic WoW.
Play the most popular game right now
Blizzard themselves have been overwhelmed with the success of Classic WoW. Originally, Blizzard expected around 189,000 players in the US across 21 realms. There are currently over 50 realms on the US servers. WoW Classic is still ranking number 1 on Twitch and has been dominating the streams since launch day. World of Warcraft used to have god-like levels of subscribers and Blizzard reaped the rewards of this with astronomical revenue. Since then, all MMO developers have been trying to create a game that can reach WoW status, and many have come close. Now it seems that Blizzard may have done it themselves with WoW Classic.
Enjoy levelling again
We’ve all heard the phrase “MMOs are about the end-game”. This is particularly true when it comes to retail World of Warcraft, where many players don’t even consider the game to start until you reach max level and start raiding. This wasn’t true in Vanilla WoW, and it isn’t true in Classic WoW either. Classic WoW is about the journey to level 60, and the relationships you make along the way, and this is something you can’t recreate in BFA.
Faction rivalry
In Retail WoW the intense feeling of faction rivalry between the Horde and the Alliance has ebbed away over time. So many of the previous expansions have revolved around a storyline where the Horde and Alliance put aside their differences and come together to fight a greater evil. This was the case in Wrath of the Lich King, in Cataclysm, in Mists of Pandaria, and others in some form. In retail WoW players can have a Horde character and Alliance character on the same PvP server! Classic WoW dismantles all of this. It makes you pick a side and fight for your side, allowing you to experience a level of rivalry and comradery you cannot experience in Retail.
Immersion
You’ve probably heard that Classic WoW is a difficult and long game. This is true, but it’s also a good thing. The world feels dangerous in Classic WoW. Your character is weak, it’s hard to make Classic WoW gold EU and buy all the best items unlike with WoW Gold in retail World of Warcraft, fighting enemies takes longer, and you better be careful not to pull too many! This all makes for a very immersive game. You get sucked into the richness of the world and your role in it, and then you realise that many hours have passed by.
The player base
The player base in MMOs can have a huge effect on your experience of the game and the friends you make. Classic WoW is a 15-year-old game and as a result, it’s attracted the players who played back in Vanilla. This makes for a more mature player base who are less interested in toxic and trollish behaviour. Players are buffing other players on their travels, helping them out with quests, even giving them free bags as they level up professions.
