STK London in Covent Garden: A pre-party destination for steak lovers
Neon lights, white leather seats and an atmosphere buzzing with music and conversation: this is the signature vibe at STK London, one of central London’s Friday pre-party night dining go-to destinations.
The steakhouse’s food menu is split into starters, grill, main and sides, with an additional selection of salads and a raw bar. For hungrier mouths, the feasting board is also an option, which includes three of the restaurant’s meat mains in one (USDA sirloin, short rib and wagyu steak tartare). The most impressive part of their offering, though, is not their food selection – steaks are expected here – but the wide variety of wine and cocktails. Among the beverages, a bottle of Autocarro 27 2017, a Portuguese red blend (Aragonez, cabernet sauvignon and touriga nacional) by Herdade do Portocarro pairs well with STK’s sirloin – a warm option.
It’s not all meat. For starters, STK offers fresh, light courses from their raw bar, and even fish salad options. The Snow Crab Salad is presented on a small plate; the portion is crafted to help diners appreciate the delicate flavours and the standard of the catch. Other fish starters that stand out include the Yellowfin Tuna Ceviche – the texture, as well as the presentation, is on point – and the Roasted Octopus with Oat-Fried Chicken.
Of course, what matters the most for STK’s reputation as a steakhouse is their grill specialities. The restaurant offers a selection arranged by size; skirt, sirloin, fillet and rib-eye cuts are all on offer. The largest steaks weigh up to 900g, while their signature “delicacy” is a smaller Australian Wagyu Sirloin, coming in at only 100g. Predictably, there’s not much on offer for those who don’t eat meat – the only vegetarian main is the Sauteed Wild Mushrooms & Truffle, although there are three fish dishes.
Pudding consists of a number of well-presented sweet creations. The Mango Panna Cotta is a fruit-based treat for the taste buds, while for the more indecisive diner they offer a Party Board featuring a series of mini-desserts for sharing. For chocolate lovers, there’s the Chocolate Cake with Rum, featuring strong notes of liquor alongside creamy chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
All in all, STK makes for a fun evening experience. The space is both glamorous and vibrant, and when it comes to produce, this internationally established restaurant delivers on quality, with a grill menu that doesn’t disappoint.
