Spring/summer 2020 trends to look out for
Even though it might not feel like it, spring and summer are on their way. And with it comes a whole new set of trends for us to update our wardrobes with! If you want to know what to expect and what to look out for on the high street, take a peek below.
The 70s
Time to hit up the vintage shops because the 70s are making a big comeback this season. You may have been hoping for 20s flapper dresses but it’s going to be all about wide collars and over the top prints – think jungle, think floral, think both.
Crochet
Now might also be a good time to give your gran a call or to get your crochet on yourself. Whether you go big with a full blown dress or keep it simple with a crochet bra top, anything that looks like you got it from a crafts fair gets a thumbs up.
Neon
Say goodbye to autumnal colours and embrace neon. Large comfy sweatshirts, brightly coloured hats and bags – whatever it takes to unleash your inner Billie Eilish. This trend is very easy to incorporate if you’re a fan of the sporty chic aesthetic.
Bralettes
Have you ever bought a bra that you thought looked too cute to just keep to yourself? Well, with this summer trend you are in luck. A true festival staple has made it to the runway. Make it boho, paired with jeans shorts and chunky boots or dress it up with a high waisted maxi skirt. Anyway you wear it, this is a perfect summer look.
Tiered dresses and maxi skirts
During the hot summer months you can’t go wrong with long flowy skirts and dresses. Already a fan of a maxi skirt? Why not update your look with a tiered dress. Tiered skirts have a romantic feel which is perfect for a dreamy, summer’s night.
Waistcoats
OK, is there anything more fabulous than rocking a waistcoat? It’s equal parts theatre nerd chic, boss bitch and a rock concert classic. This versatile piece can’t be missing from your wardrobe.
Leather
Yes, leather jackets are a classic but this season step out of your comfort zone and incorporate leather into other pieces. Skirts, trousers, tops – anything goes. Combine a leather bodysuit with a simple pair of trousers or leather pants with a plain black top and you’ll give a basic look an extra edge.
Polka dots
If big and bold prints are not really your thing then not to worry, the classic and cheerful polka dot is also making a comeback. Wear it on a skirt, a blouse or even a headband, it will make your whole look more playful.
Puffed sleeves
Puffed sleeves are a really fun trend to play around with. You can go as subtle or big as you want, anything goes! Pair a blouse with puffy sleeves and skinny jeans or choose a flowy dress with a nice puffed sleeve.
Wrapped ankles
When it comes to shoes, look for something that wraps around your ankle. Go for ballerina style for a sweet aesthetic or something with chain detailing for a party look.
Sheer layers
If you want to ease into the bra top trend sheer layers are your friend. Wear a sheer top over your prettiest bra or choose a blouse or dress with a cool print over a basic top.
White dresses
There’s something timeless about a white dress and there is absolutely no reason to reserve them solely for weddings. Pack a white dress for your next beach holiday, not only will it reflect the sun it will also make you look more tanned!
Trenchcoats
Ever a wardrobe staple, trenchcoats are also back on the runway. Again, this is a trend that you can play around with. Opt for a classic look or choose a more embellished piece, really make it your own.
Denim
Something we truly never grow tired of: good old denim. Dig out your dungarees and bust out the blue jeans. If you’ve been eyeing a particular jean jacket, now is the time to wear it.
Boilersuits
Boilersuits will be all the rage this spring and they are a perfect outfit of choice for those windy spring days. If you’re looking to reel in all the cool points this season then get yourself a boilersuit.
