Thinking about a christening? Here’s some food for thought
There are plenty of exciting things about being a parent and raising a child. However, being able to celebrate your child coming into the world and being a part of your family; well that is pretty exciting too.
This celebration can come in the form of a christening and whilst a christening is great fun, there is plenty to think about and plan for. All of which can cause you a bit of a headache. Not only can your to-do list grow and grow, but you are also going to want to make sure that the entire day is everything that it can be for you and for your little one.
So, to help you to have the most perfect christening, here’s a little guide from christening specialists Just Christening, listing the things you need to keep in mind when it comes to planning and preparation for the big day.
Start with your church of choice
You can’t have a christening without a church: this is always the first thing that you should choose and book. The majority of children are going to be christened in a church that is local to them, which makes the entire process of finding one that little bit easier. However, this isn’t always the case. The important thing to remember is that you need to make sure that you can relatively easily make it to the church before the big day as you will need to attend a couple of Sunday services before the christening.
Pick your godparents
The next important decision that you need to make is who is going to be named as a godparent for your little one. More than just someone who is going to be stood up at the front of the church whilst your child is christened, they are someone who is supposed to be a guide for your baby throughout their life. This means that you need to make sure that you pick people who you believe are going to be able to support your little one and help them to make the right decisions in their own life. You should also feel that those people are going to be a part of your lives long-term and not be someone who you end up not seeing in the future.
Choose outfits for your child
As a christening is a big event, which means that you are going to want to make sure that your little one looks as adorable as ever. Christening outfits come in all styles, modern and traditional so the one that you pick will really depend on your own taste. Some parents decide to put their children in a traditional outfit, known as a christening robe. However, this isn’t exactly what some people want their child to wear. If you are more modern in your style then you can take a look through some of the outfits out there in high street stores which might be more your style. The main thing to think about is that your child is comfortable throughout the whole day as this will make sure that they are happy.
Put together a party and organise food
Whilst the key part of your entire christening is the service and what it means for you as a family, many families do decide to hold a party afterwards. If you do decide to do this then you are going to need to plan it and make sure that you have everything that you need. You are going to need to source a venue that can hold all the people that you want to invite. You also need to choose the set-up of the party too, some want something casual whilst others want to organise something more formal.
You should also consider how you are going to keep everyone entertained; this is particularly true if you are going to be inviting other children. As bored children might cause a bit of trouble.
You also need to think about food for the entire party too. Much like many of the decisions, it is down to you to think about what type of food you want to serve your guests. Some will cook a few bits themselves, but if you are short on time, or you simply don’t want to cook; then you could also arrange a catering service to take care of the food for you.
Planning a christening can be hard work and there are plenty of things that you need to think about and decide on. Thankfully, if you make yourself a list of all that you need to keep in mind, then you can ensure that things are a little bit easier and that you have all that you need when you need it.
That way your little one can have the perfect celebration that is all about them and how important they are to your family, friends and those who are closest to you.
