How to create a peaceful workspace

How to create a peaceful workspace

Whether you’ve worked at home for years or the pandemic and resulting quarantine has made it so, creating a peaceful workspace is vital if we actually want to get any work done! From designated offices to makeshift areas you’ve had to create at a moment’s notice, we’re here to talk you through how you can design a truly peaceful workspace in your own home.

Designate your space

Carving out a space for work and a space for free time can be difficult, especially for those of us living in smaller apartments. So, even if you’ve no desk and you’re setting up one half of the kitchen table as your new office, make that your only work area. For the time being, don’t use it for anything else. It’s surprising how quickly our minds start to associate that space with work which makes it a lot easier to focus on the task at hand!

Turn your back on the TV

If limited space means you need to set yourself up in the same room as the TV, try to make sure you’re facing away from the set. Having it on in the background may seem like a good idea but it’s much more likely you’ll catch yourself watching it every five minutes! Out of sight, out of mind.

Bring the outside in

Most of us are really missing the outside world right now and it’s stunting our creativity and motivation. So, if you can, try to get yourself set up by an open window. Looking onto the garden or street and feeling the breeze is incredibly comforting and peaceful. Not to mention it’s a lot more inspiring than staring at a blank wall! If that’s not possible, make sure to bring some life into your day with a small potted plant or flower.

Organization is key

Looking at a chaotic desk covered in crisp packets never helped anyone work faster! Make sure you keep yours organised to keep your mind clear and able to focus. Even if shelves and files aren’t available to you right now, a simple stacking system and making the effort to walk your empty teacup to the sink works wonders!

Take a deep breath

Make sure there are no loose papers around and treat yourself to a scented candle as you work. Choose a calming scent that soothes you and enjoy it. After all, it’s not something you can do in just any office!
