The biggest dress mistakes in men’s fashion
When building one’s own style, it’s common to focus on what and how to wear it, watching new things come into vogue. Unfortunately, when chasing fashion trends, people often forget about the most basic rules. It’s important to pay attention to these because even the smallest mistake can ruin careful efforts in a matter of seconds.
Stains
Before putting favourite items in the washing machine, check their colourfastness and follow the strict washing instructions on the clothes. Only wash clothes that are close in colour. There is nothing worse than discovering discolouration on a perfectly washed piece.
Non-seasonal clothing
Put the winter and summer pieces in separate places, or better yet, put them in completely separate cabinets. This will prevent the mixing of seasonal garments, such as the paring of a linen shirt under a thick woollen jacket.
Pants too long or too short
Before buying a pair of pants, be very thorough in the changing room. Improperly chosen pants length can ruin even the most impressive and best-fitting piece. Always remember the following rule: suit and khaki pants should end at the top of the heel. Jeans can be a little longer, they can even cover the heel. A few extra inches is too much. Do not make the length of the trouser leg shorter as legs will look shorter in this case. The socks should not be visible while walking, but can peek up to a few inches when sitting.
Waistline too high
For those who have been blessed with a short upper body and long legs, it’s advised to wear low-waisted pants and choose models with front pockets instead of side pockets.
Wrong t-shirt length
When t-shirts are too long, they don’t fit into trousers properly. Therefore, any outerwear should end in the middle of the fly. It can’t be shorter either, otherwise, the back will pop up with each bend. Try to find the brand and style that best suits you, even if it takes a lot of time.
“Overloaded top”
Brilliant colours, strikingly challenging inscriptions and striking well-known brands are all great, of course. But only in certain situations. In most cases, however, single-colour, understated-toned t-shirts give much more room for garment compatibility and protect against further room for error.
Un-ironed clothes
The rules of thoroughness have not been withdrawn by anyone yet, here is one: the iron and ironing board – the best friends for a well-groomed look. Men’s shirts are often not perfectly ironed, so it’s worth paying attention to detail and learn how to iron clothes. By the end of the day, a top can be pretty crumpled, especially during trips. In the final case, soak the crumpled part, smooth it out with new ones and, if possible, dry it with a dryer.
Underdressing
There are locations that require an unwritten dressing code. These places are bars, theatres, entertainment complexes, classical music concerts and weddings. In some of these places, there is a certain dress code, but that can be often misunderstood. So to avoid this, make sure to ask someone how to dress or at least don’t underdress. For example, it’s unacceptable for a gentleman to wear a short-sleeved shirt at any of the places mentioned before.
Poorly tied tie
Practice proves that the art of tie-knitting is completely in place – only after a certain practice can one become a master of this knowledge. Don’t forget about the length of the tie either. In a classic lineup, the end should reach the buckle of the trouser strap.
Sandals and socks
It’s a classic mistake and the scariest one. When buying an open shoe, forget the socks! For those who still can’t get rid of this noble element of a wardrobe, but still want to wear something light, try short-leg ankle socks, perforated sports pike or thin-skinned moccasin shoes.
Brushed eyebrows
There are salons that magically, once and for all, remove hairs found on the nasal saddle. Either way, frowning eyebrows aren’t an overly beautiful sight.
