Six fashion trends worth investing in this spring
With the darkest days of winter behind us, we are channelling all our positivity into spring and the gorgeous new fashion pieces flooding the high street. Dare we say it, we might even be able to put our beloved lounge sets on hold while we embrace new statement pieces.
We’ve rounded up the six wardrobe trends worth investing in to inject some life into your new season wardrobe.
Pastels
It’s no surprise that pastels seem to be everywhere we look. According to leading psychologists, we’re all turning to soft and comforting colour palettes in response to our longing for wellness and comfort amid the backdrop of the pandemic. Shades of lilac, baby blue and lemon have been dominating the runways this spring/summer.
Structured suit blazer, £59.99, Mango
For the perfect transitional piece, we’re loving this sky blue double-breasted blazer from Mango. Pair with the matching trousers for office chic, or a white tee and vintage blue denim for a more casual and relaxed look.
Cropped boxy knit cardigan, £65, & Other Stories
As the glorious British weather is known for being notoriously unpredictable, layering is key this spring. This & Other Stories boxy knit cardigan in a gorgeous mint shade is perfect and even comes with a matching cropped fitted knit top for when the sun does decide to make an appearance.
Relaxed silhouettes
Could there be a better trend to ease us back into life after lockdown? Form fitting fashion is out, and oversized and loose styles are in. You don’t need to ask us twice to embrace the relaxed shapes this season.
Oversized gingham shirt, £27.99, Zara
Zara’s take on this trend is ideal for spring. The pretty gingham loose-collared shirt is great to layer under blazers, tuck into jeans or wear alone as a slouchy staple.
Linen blend trench coat, £105, Arket
Relaxed silhouettes are taking over outerwear, too. Arket seamlessly blends the oversized with femininity with this dusky pink trench coat. The double-breasted style pays homage to the classic trench shape, while the mix of linen twill weave and Tencel lyocell gives the fabric a gorgeously smooth feel.
Broderie anglaise
There’s an air of romance when it comes to spring fashion, and broderie anglaise is one trend at the heart of it, making a firm comeback year on year. It’s one of the only trends to instantly channel British summer in the countryside, giving a feminine and dreamlike feel to outfits.
Broderie button-through mini dress, £28, ASOS
ASOS has kept things simple and sweet with this white broderie mini dress. It’s the perfect throw-on piece for spring/summer, and great for pairing with a chunky cardigan while we wait for the temperatures to warm up.
Embroidered georgette top, £59, French Connection
We love the added pop of colour on the shoulders of this French Connection number. The delicate floral embroidery on the square neckline immediately attracts your eye, while the fitted waist and slightly flared hem makes for a super flattering fit.
Florals
Would it really be spring fashion without a gorgeous floral? The explosion of colourful floral prints littered the runways this year, with designers clashing a range of patterns to make a bold statement.
Short-sleeved T-shirt with ruffles, £19.99, Mango
Mango’s ruched T-shirt comes complete with puffed short sleeves and gathering along the front and back, while the slightly cropped fit gives it a fun and flirty feel.
Ditsy poplin dress, £75, French Connection
This French Connection poplin dress brings an added touch of femininity with on-trend balloon sleeves and a cut-out back. Dress up or down depending on the occasion.
Retro flares
Designers’ love of the 70s continued this spring with the addition of oversized collars, platform heels and flared trousers. There are so many takes on the retro trend filling the high street, so there’s sure to be something for everyone.
High rise kick flare jeans, £35, Asos Design
If you don’t fancy going all-out retro, this pair of flared jeans from ASOS offers a more subtle nod to the trend. Unlike the old days, for a more classic look, stay away from low rise hipsters and opt for a fitted high rise style.
High rise wide leg jeans, £140, Reformation
If you’re looking to splurge on a pair of flattering flares, look no further than these Reformation jeans. The ivory colour is stunning for spring, and the exposed buttons and navy topstitching really catch your eye. Plus they come in petite, too.
Bold colour
We’ve never been happier to see so much colour in our wardrobes. After a year of lockdowns, it’s great to see some vibrant bursts of colour, perfect for brightening up our day.
Knit top with oversized cotton collar, £79, Never Fully Dressed
Who could resist this beautiful cherry embroidery? Never Fully Dressed’s hot pink knit combines two of this year’s biggest trends – statement collars and broderie – to make one staple you need in your spring wardrobe.
Knitted sleeveless dress, £19.99, Zara
Zara has well and truly embraced colour this year with its spring collection. This knitted mini dress comes in neon orange, statement fuchsia and a more muted lilac. Wear on its own or layered over a crisp white shirt for a smarter look.
