If it’s possible to travel, it’s definitely worth doing. Staying in one place is not something that many Americans do, so it is a good idea to follow suit.

It is always best to plan a trip to the United States in advance so that there’s no risk of missing out on the important things. No matter where travellers arrive, it is likely that there will be a lot of local attractions, but getting around the country is the best way to experience the country. Road trip

There is nothing more American than embarking on a road trip. Americans like to do this a lot, and it’s easy to join in the fun. Travelling with family members or friends can be a real bonding experience.

It is very easy to hire a car in the United States and the rates for car hire are usually reasonable. Driving licenses from a lot of different countries are accepted in America, so any formalities are likely to be minimal. It’s always a good idea to ensure that good insurance cover is purchased when hiring a car.

Next, it’ll be useful to get a map and plan the route. It’s important to make sure that places are identified for rest each night. There are plenty of hotels and motels in most American locations, especially close to highways. It’s best to take provisions along for the journey, though of course authentic road-trippers shouldn’t forget those all-important “rest stops”.

Disney and other attractions

For anyone travelling to the east or west coasts of America, it’s well worth taking the opportunity to check out the Disney resorts and other exciting theme parks. The first Disney theme park, Disneyland, is located in California, and it is a joy to behold. There are other great attractions nearby as well, so neither the parents or the children will ever be bored.

The other place to find Disney and other theme parks is Florida on the east coast. In Orlando, there is Disney World, Epcot, Universal Studios and many others, all fairly close to each other. The Epcot Center is really interesting as it combines science with fun – and all of this in the sizzling Florida heat.

The Grand Canyon

Visitors are always amazed at the size and beauty of the Grand Canyon. It is a true icon of the United States and something that visitors absolutely must see on a visit there. The Grand Canyon is situated in Arizona, close to the borders with Nevada and Utah. Flowing through the Grand Canyon is the famous Colorado River, which passes through seven different states.

If visitors can get the chance to go on a helicopter or plane trip over the Grand Canyon they definitely should. It isn’t cheap, especially if with family in tow, but the views above the canyon are just breathtaking.

New York and Las Vegas

If one asked 100 people what the two most exciting cities in America are, it is highly likely that the majority would respond with New York or Las Vegas. One does not even have to have travelled to the United States to know this. The reputation of these two cities is such that excitement always springs to mind.

New York is a huge city and the biggest in the country, and there is so much to see and do – it really is the city that never sleeps. Any time of the day or night there will be people walking around Times Square and having a good time.

Las Vegas is famous for its entertainment complexes more than anything else. The Strip is the place to be for those who like to play games. If it’s not possible to get to Las Vegas and the gaming bug bites, there are always free casino games online as a good alternative.

A drive-in movie

For something quintessentially American, a drive-in movie is ideal. Here viewers never need to leave their cars, they can order food and beverages, and have a great time with friends and family. For a number of reasons, the number of drive-in movie theatres has dwindled over the last few years, but the good news is that there are still over 300 drive-in movie theatres remaining in operation. Drivers should be able to find one wherever they are. Most states do have at least one, though it might be necessary to travel quite a distance to find it.
