World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021: The new 51-100 list on a map
Two years after the last reveal, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants academy has announced the 2021 list of restaurants ranked from 51 to 100 ahead of the awards ceremony which takes place on Tuesday 5th October in Antwerp, Belgium. The list is determined by a voting body comprising over 1,000 international restaurant industry experts and is independently adjudicated by services consultancy Deloitte.
The highest new entry in the 51-100 list is Alchemist in Copenhagen, Denmark at 58. St Hubertus in San Cassiano, Italy has risen the greatest number of places, improving by 62 positions since 2019 – back then the list was extended to 120 restaurants.
But the dominating country of this selection is Japan, with five restaurants – 10% of the total number – including two new entries in Tokyo: Sazenka and L’Effervescence.
It is also worth mentioning that Pía Léon, voted The World’s Best Female Chef, is co-owner of Kjolle and Mil, two new entries from Peru.
The positioning of the UK is looking stale, with The Clove Club and Lyle’s still the only two establishments within the top part of the list – or at least that’s what it seems like from today’s revelation. Amongst the 51-100, both Core and Dinner by Heston have improved on their positions, at 64 and 65 respectively. There are also two new entries from London: Brat in Shoreditch at 78 and One to Watch award winner Ikoyi at 87.
