Brand-new drinks pioneer Quarter has just launched in the UK with a product set to make waves this holiday season: Quarter G/N represents a fresh sub-category in the no/low alcohol market, known as “light spirits”. It bridges the gap between full-strength distilled spirits and “no-and-low” alcohol offerings, making it easier to eat, drink and be merry without the epic hangover.

Quarter was created by co-founders Fabian Clark and Rohan Radhakrishnan, school friends with years of experience working in hospitality, the drinks industry and for creative agencies. The two developed the brand for a year before they were ready to release Quarter G/N to the public, working directly with ex-Diageo head distiller Anthony Wilson to create the recipe, and experimenting with over 50 distillates before finding the perfect flavour profile. Quarter G/N is created in the traditional London Dry style via copper-pot distillation, infused with a variety of other botanicals (predominantly juniper) and a hint of citrus from grapefruit and orange. The result is a refreshingly light spirit with just a quarter of the strength of gin.

“Zero-alcohol” brands cannot exceed 0.5%, and “low-alcohol” drinks must not exceed a maximum of 1.2% proof. At 12%, Quarter provides the flavour, mouth-feel and texture of the full-strength spirit without the alcoholic punch, making it a perfect substitute in any gin-based cocktail that can be enjoyed the whole night through without consequences. In effect, using double measures (50ml) of Quarter G/N with the drinker’s choice of mixer, it’s easy to create traditional favourites, such as a G&T, with four Quarter and Tonics (Q&T) providing the unit equivalent of one regular G&T. Complemented with a tart wedge of blood orange, it represents all the pleasure without the pain.

Another great option is the G/N Soda, which includes Quarter G/N paired with Dash’s bitter orange and grapefruit soda, garnished with a slice of grapefruit to create a fresh and zingy serve – and sitting at just 40 calories, it’s much lighter too. The spirit is also delicious neat, over ice, or as the base for a significantly lower-alcohol dry Martini (with less alcohol by volume than the average glass of wine). Quarter recommend Double Dutch tonics or Dash’s new range of soda mixer to create a variety of delicious and easy serves, but G/N will mix beautifully with any mixer that would normally pair well with gin.

G/N represents the first release from Quarter, but more spirits are currently in development and will be released by the brand in the near future.
