Memorable shows and unforgettable moments
Daniel Fletcher
British designer Daniel Reed designed a truly personal, 70s inspired collection as a tribute to his late father. Stand-out pieces included silk separates with heart cut-outs and a chunky red and white scarf knitted for the designer by none other than Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Preen
As unforgettable as Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton’s return to the runway was in terms of the setting (Heaven nightclub) and the clothing itself, the real magic came when Viviana Durante and her students from the English National Ballet School performed a choreographed dance wearing Preen’s new collection.
Harris Reed… and a special guest
Attendees of Harris Reed’s debut runway show 60 Years a Queen, were treated to more than just the iconic looks he served up when Sam Smith appeared on stage to serenade them. Accompanied by a grand piano, Smith belted out an unforgettable performance of Des’ree’s I’m Kissing You, inside the church at St John’s Smith Square in Westminster.
Celebrity street style
As expected, LFW was brimming with celebrities dressed to impress – and impress they did!
Notable mentions go to FKA twigs’ tiered tulle dress and eyelet detail shrug, Tinie Tempah’s on-trend checkerboard co-ord and Chloe Cherry’s spiky Chet Lo dress with a plunging V-neckline.
New trends
Since the runways dictate what everyone will be wearing just a few months from now, we made sure to take note of the most prominent styles and trends cropping up on repeat this fashion week.
Cut-out detailing
Think keyhole tops, cut-out waists and anything backless. Cut-out pieces were everywhere this past week so expect to see them throughout summer and right into autumn.
Velvet textures
If the likes of Edward Crutchley, Simone Rocha and Christopher Kane are anything to go by (they are), autumn and winter will see the return of velvet. Look out for dramatic prints as well as some lighter pastel-shaded pieces for a modern take.
Jewel tones
From Paul & Joe and Halpern to Molly Goddard and Eudon Choi, countless designers featured jewel-toned looks in their collections this past week and we’re far from mad about it. Add one jewel-toned piece to your look for a nod to the trend or embrace it fully in a head-to-toe block colour outfit!
