A visit to Manchester: Entertainment and shopping

Manchester is one of the best loved cities in Europe. Full of culture and a loving community, it is home to many famous celebrities and entertainment areas. The city has a great history, and more recently entered the public eye after the horrific attack on Manchester Arena in 2017, which claimed 22 lives. The symbol of the Manchester Bee has been the emblem of the area for more than 150 years and denotes the hard work ethic of its people and the sense of unity.

Manchester is a massively popular tourist destination as it has so much to offer in terms of entertainment. This article delves into the best spots in Manchester for entertainment and give some ideas for where to visit on a trip there.

Sport

Kicking off with sports, Manchester is home to arguably two of the biggest clubs in world football, Manchester United and Manchester City. Both of them are supported all around the world and at this moment in time are making headlines for very opposite reasons. Manchester City seem to be the most talented team in Europe and look unstoppable, whereas United are having a calamitous season and have been a laughing stock since the retirement of their great manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Both teams are always on the lips of many famous sports news programmes and heavily promoted on entertainment platforms.

Bars

It seems over the last decade a lot of money has been spent on renovating the city to make it more attractive for locals and also tourists. In order to achieve this, they wanted to offer more appeal through their bars and nightclub, going above and beyond what would be a standard bar and adding some personality to it. Here are five of the best bars in Manchester:

  1. The Alchemist
  2. Albert’s Schloss
  3. Roxy Ballroom
  4. The Lawn Club

Of course, there are many other very appealing, quirky bars that could be mentioned, and with a little research it’s easy to find them and pick the best suited ones for a visit.

Games and entertainment centres

It must be said that Manchester is by no means short of games and entertainment centres. It seems that every time one becomes popular, another one opens. These centres are great fun and can be enjoyed by family and friends. They all have their own unique theme so it is worth reading into them to see which is the most appealing. Three of the top recommendations that are certainly worth a visit are:

  1. Virtual Hideout
  2. The Crystal Maze Live Experience
  3. Flip Out

Shopping centres

One thing that’s undeniable about Manchester is the fashion. It is so diverse that no matter where you are in the town, there will be people with different fashion trends, some of which are certainly not scared to go all-out to stand out.

Anyone who’s into fashion and likes to do a bit of shopping is in luck. There are two highly recommendable places that are well worth a visit, predominantly known for their shopping facilities but certainly offering more in terms of overall experience:

  1. The Trafford Centre
This is one of the most appealing shopping malls in the UK. It’s a very aesthetically pleasing place to shop, like stepping into royalty with luxurious building designs.
  2. The Arndale
Similar to any other big city shopping mall, with a huge food court and lots of places to walk around and visit. It has all the big name brands and is consistently packed at any given time.
