How to repair hair from summer damage

The summer months can really be hard on hair, so putting in a little extra effort to take care of and nourish it can go a long way, both during summer and afterwards. After all, all that time in the summer sun, salt water and chlorine water can really make hair dry and ultimately damage it.

Now that the summer season has to come an end, it is time to come up with a game plan for some hair TLC in order to make it healthy again.

Here are some tips for how to repair hair from summer damage, starting today:

Limit washes

Over-washing hair can cause stress and strip it of its natural oils. Instead, washes should be limited and be intentional for when it’s actually necessary to have freshly washed hair.

Use a nourishing shampoo

A nourishing shampoo will help hair grow healthy and strong, rather than dry it out or cause further damage like some shampoos actually do. A product like the Blue Lagoon nourishing shampoo is a great option, as it is packed with natural and rich ingredients.

Use a hair oil

A hair oil is a way to provide more hydration to hair, nourish the ends, enjoy a scalp massage and more. Some great oils to use for the hair include carrot seed oil and coconut oil.

Avoid using heat when possible

While heat can help attain the desired stylet, it can also cause damage to hair, so it is important to be mindful of using heat not do so too often. The more one air dries one’s hair, the more it’ll adjust to it and the better it will look too!

Use a hair mask at least once a week for an intensive treatment

At least once a week, it’s worth giving hair a little extra attention by using a hair mask. Whether all the time for the hair mask is dedicated to self-care or one leaves one on while taking care of some other things, giving hair a targeted treatment to focus on repair and hydration can lead to a significant overall building in strength.

Trim off any damage or split ends

When hair is damaged or has split ends, it needs a refresh so it can continue growing strong and healthy. This is the moment to go for a trim, and do it as consistently as possible to stay on top of those ends and hair health. Most people also notice that when hair is trimmed it will have not only more shape but also more volume and will absorb products differently.

Be gentle when detangling

When detangling hair it’s important to be sure to be gentle. It is ideal to detangle hair when it has conditioner in it with a specific detangling brush, then let it dry naturally and avoid causing stress on it during the drying process.

There are also some things one can do in terms of lifestyle for one’s hair, such as paying special attention to diet for hair health. Some foods to incorporate are eggs for their biotin and protein, berries for their vitamins and nuts for their healthy fats.
