One of the big benefits of the United Kingdom being so small is the fact that those that live in the country can easily go on a day trip to a number of iconic cities. It is one of the main reasons why millions of visitors enter the UK annually, as there is more than enough to do to keep busy no matter how long that you’re visiting the area for.

But, what are some of the best cities for days out in the UK that should be added to everyone’s bucket lists?

Birmingham

There are few more accessible cities in the United Kingdom than Birmingham. Located in the middle of country, the second city has become a hub of activity over recent years, and there is more than enough to see and do to ensure that you can have an action-packed day out.

There are a number of incredible museums, while those looking to get out of the city can also venture to the Black Country Museum. Also, there are also a number of excellent tea rooms in the city, which are perfect for an opportunity to refuel after wondering around the city. Those looking to do a spot of shopping shouldn’t look past the historic Bull Ring, while the Mailbox and Cube are perfect locations to grab dinner.

Bristol

Another very accessible city in the United Kingdom can be found with Bristol. Visitors can get here from a range of train stations across the UK, including Cardiff, London and Oxford. While here, there is an excellent Bristol Ferry Boat that operates throughout the year, which means that visitors can experience the iconic city from the water.

On the water, you will also find the famous harbour that Bristol is most famous for. Another important stop on your tour across the city should include the Clifton Suspension Bridge, while St Nick’s is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, with the location excelling when it comes to offering unbelievable street food from Italy, Morocco and the Caribbean. If you’re looking to unwind, then the Lido in Clifton spa is the place to spend your day.

Brighton

One of the most scenic days out in the summertime comes in the form of Brighton. The seaside resort is renowned for its glorious beaches, and is the preferred summer hotspot for Londoners looking for a staycation not too far from their local city. It is easily accessible from the capital, while trains can also be found in the South East.

Brighton pier is the main drawing point to the seaside, while it’s a perfect family day out, with cafes, arcades and restaurants found along the sea front. It is also a perfect spot for those lovers of everything vintage, with the one standout location being The Lanes. If the weather is hot, the beaches are the places to unwind away from the city, with Brighton housing some of the very best beaches anywhere in the United Kingdom.
