Cassyette at Electric Ballroom
British alt-rock musician Cassyette’s name is on everyone’s lips and deservedly so. The singer’s rise has been meteoric, and with a huge social media following, a stadium support slot for My Chemical Romance under her belt and a string of sold-out shows across the country, there is no sign of it slowing down.
See her live and it all becomes very clear. Casseyette is a powerhouse of a performer. Taking to the Electric Ballroom stage, the singer delivers an hour of her unique blend of hard-rock, electronica and dance. Bouncing around the stage, it’s all about engaging with the audience as she jumps into the pit several times to get up close and personal. There is a sense that the singer would rather be braving the mosh pits with her die-hard fans but instead gleefully orchestrates them from stage.
Kicking things off with pop-metal track Like That, the artist is unapologetic in her persona as she dons a leather gimp-style mask in front of flashing lights and a slick backing band. Next up is Picture Perfect, and some self-indulgent attention paid to the many photographers scrambling to capture the starlet.
September Rain and Petrichor are highlights of the set, showing off the singer’s vocal range. There is a hint of Evanescence but with a more modern and electronic-heavy production. Meanwhile, the energy overflows during BOOM, the singer’s most recent single. A hard-hitting punk-rock offering, the room goes wild with crowd surfers – including Cassyette having a go herself – and flying drinks. One final moment of exhilaration and beer-soaked madness follows as the encore closes things out in spectacular fashion.
Casseyette is the sort of artist that’s hard to box: a little bit pop, a little bit punk and a hell of a lot of rock ‘n’ roll. Existing within a rising women-led nu-metal scene experimenting with elements of pop and dance, she doesn’t just hold her own in the genre, she’s leading the pack. There is something refreshing and wildly exciting about Cassyette. With just one album under her belt so far, the stages are undoubtedly only going to get bigger, and by the looks of tonight, she’s more than ready for it.
