Karen Betts: Must-have microblading
Eyebrows have gained significant prominence in the realm of beauty over recent years, with the prevailing trend favouring a full and natural-looking aesthetic.
However, this look may be impeded by several factors such as over-plucking during adolescence, a fair complexion or a medical condition. If the desired finish is unattainable using cosmetic products, semi-permanent makeup might be worth considering.
Karen Betts is a leading player in the field. Boasting over 25 years of experience, the beautician owns salons in London, Cheshire and Yorkshire, alongside a training academy where students learn the foundations of microblading. So, we were delighted when she extended an invitation for us to try the treatment at her renowned Harley Street clinic.
Located on the third floor of a magnificent Victorian building, this venue exudes a welcoming and serene atmosphere. The session commenced with a thorough consultation where expectations were discussed, and brow shapes and colours were sampled. After ensuring complete satisfaction, numbing cream was applied.
During the two-step process, Karen used a state-of-the-art microblading tool to create delicate and precise hair-like strokes that mirrored the natural direction of growth. She then applied pigment, allowing it to permeate these newly formed channels.
The sensation experienced during microblading can be likened to scratches on the skin. It is not painful and becomes barely noticeable once the numbing cream reaches full effect. Karen took great care in explaining each step, ensuring we felt entirely at ease throughout the hour-long procedure. Customers are sent home with a special balm, which should be used twice daily to facilitate the healing process and maintain the optimal condition of their eyebrows.
It is important to note that the initial colour will appear darker than anticipated; this will fade over the following six to ten days, resulting in a perfect finish. Mild redness and dry skin can also be expected, although we didn’t find it to be sufficiently distracting to interfere with our working day.
A top-up session is required four to 12 weeks later to address any faded areas. During this appointment, Karen will enhance the original hairlines to produce a longer-lasting finish. Once complete, eyebrows should only face minimal fading.
There is no doubt that microblading has taken the beauty world by storm. We highly recommend this revolutionary technique because of the time it saves in a morning routine. Moreover, with Karen’s extensive and unparalleled expertise, her clients are certainly in safe hands.
