James Knappett and Michael Wignall are set to cook together for an exceptional one-off dinner at The Angel in Hetton on Monday 26th June.

Knappett of Kitchen Table in Fitzrovia brings his two Michelin stars and a decade of fine-dining expertise to collaborate with Wignall, the acclaimed chef at the helm of the North Yorkshire restaurant. This four-hand promises an evening of gastronomic brilliance as the pair join forces to showcase an array of dishes that honour the best of British seasonal ingredients.

The chef’s table restaurant recently marked its ten-year milestone, a testament to Knappett’s commitment to haute cuisine. His meticulous attention to detail is evident in the daily-changing tasting menu, a signature feature of his work.

On the other hand, Wignall, who opened The Angel in 2018, has been instrumental in transforming one of the country’s oldest gastropubs into a hotspot for gourmets. Renowned for his “modern, technical and meaningful” approach to food, he continually crafts unique, flavourful dishes that delight the palate.

The pair have designed an 11-course tasting menu that reflects their mutual appreciation for seasonality and gastronomic innovation.

The evening will commence with a selection of snacks, including Reblochon, Parfait and Umami, White Asparagus and Crispy Chicken Skin. The first dish – Isle of Wight Tomatoes, Goat’s Curd, Gordal Olive, Basil and Nori – will be a fresh twist on the red vegetable.

Further courses will include Chalk Stream Trout, with shrimp hollandaise, asparagus and woodruff, and Lobster Curry. Hokkaido Milk Bread, served with Ampersand butter, smoked aubergine and taramasalata, will act as a delightful interlude.

The main dishes will be Shutelake Milk-fed Lamb, barbucine, dandelion, salsa verde, fresh milk curd and courgetti, along with Fillet of Beef served with wild garlic preserve, black truffle and potato. For dessert, diners will enjoy a Rhubarb, Black pepper Meringue and Elderflower as well as Malt Loaf and Styrofoam, Tokaji and Medjool Parfait, and Baked Chocolate.

This one-off meal is priced at £180 per person and those looking to extend their culinary journey into an overnight getaway can take advantage of a dinner and accommodation package, with prices starting from £305 per person.
