Collaborate to Innovate’s third edition backs record number of projects across Europe
Europa Cinemas, with the backing of Creative Europe/MEDIA, has announced the selection of 17 pioneering projects for the third edition of its flagship initiative Collaborate to Innovate. The scheme, launched in 2021, champions innovative collaborations within the Europa Cinemas Network at both the national and European levels.
Supporting inclusive and environmentally sustainable projects
A generous grant of up to €100,000 is on offer, aimed at environmentally conoscious and inclusive European film projects. The organisation has already begun its third funding cycle, with the 13 projects supported in 2022 reaching completion and nearly €1.4 million earmarked for the current round of 17 projects, which will benefit 99 cinemas across Europe.
The projects for the current year herald from 16 European nations, providing a snapshot of the diversity within the network. These selected projects, which include four international collaborations, span a wide variety of themes, ranging from the development of young audiences and film literacy to the implementation of green practices and the inclusion of marginalised audiences.
Cultivating innovation and driving change
Europa Cinemas CEO Fatima Djoumer affirmed the mission of the scheme: to inspire exhibitors within the network and beyond with impactful projects. Meanwhile, Lucia Recalde, head of unit Creative Europe MEDIA at the European Commission, noted the crucial role that the Europa Cinemas network plays in promoting the cultural diversity of European film and attracting new audiences. The selection for 2023 includes projects such as Croatia’s Let’s Start From 0+! and France’s Cinebox, all promising to spark innovation within the cinema-going experience.
