Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour tickets: The best-selling by one artist in history
Remember how Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was reported to have crashed Ticketmaster’s website due to the overwhelming ticket demands by Swifties, and people who just wanted to have a feeling of Taylor Swift’s magic for the first time?
That was just one side of the story. Stubhub, one of the greatest ticket-selling platforms in the world recently classified the Eras Tour Tickets sale as one, “Tracking to be the best-selling of any artist,” in their history.
This is a marketplace that has been active since 2000, but somehow, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has made their history book due to the massive support shown by Swfties and other fans that came out to make the 2023 Eras Tour, one of the greatest in the history of the world.
When Taylor Swift initially announced the Eras Tour in 2023, 27 dates were allocated to her fans in the US and 8 dates for Swifties in Europe. That later turned out to be a mistake because, at the time of the announcement, Taylor completely undermined the capacity of her fans, Swifties.
The demand for the Eras Tour tickets by Swifties in Europe, and the US, forced Taylor Swift to announce more dates in addition to the 8 and 27 earlier announced. By the end of the day, Europe had a total of 24 shows, while the US had a total of 52 shows meaning, Swift had to announce 14 more shows for Europe, and 25 more shows because her fans, Swifties, demanded it.
At that moment, it became clear that the Eras Tour was going to be something the world had never seen before. Altogether, Taylor Swift took the Eras Tour to 5 main locations. The US, Canada, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.
Even though getting the Eras Tour tickets has been a hectic and disappointing process for some fans, in these various locations, the Eras Tour still has more than 60 shows to go, if Taylor doesn’t add more dates along the line. That being mentioned, regards to the stress, perhaps a marketplace will be the best alternative to get Taylor Swift tickets.
This was how the Eras Tour tickets were sold in the US, Canada, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.
US and Canada
The Eras Tour ticket sales in the US and Canada turned out well as Ticketmaster reported close to 4 million registrations by fans on presales accounts in the US alone. More than 77% of Canada’s population, equaling more than 30 million fans registered for the Eras Tour tickets presales.
According to a statement released by Ticketmaster, the presale process played an important role in ensuring that the people who got tickets to the Eras Tour concerts in the US and Canada were deserving of it.
This statement came to show Ticketmaster’s transparency in ensuring that scalpers and bots did not have any access to tickets to resell them to Swifties for outrageous amounts.
During the Eras Tour ticket sales, the platinum tickets were completely left out of the equation, leaving just Regular tickets and VIP tickets. Regular tickets were sold for $49 to $499, while VIP tickets were sold for $199 to $899.
Swifties who had “Lover Fest” tickets received special access to the presales account, alongside other fans who purchased the Eras Tour merchandise, before purchasing tickets.
Even though the process was hectic, and tiring, especially for those fans who had to queue for the tickets, the process ensured that only legit Swfties in the US and Canada got the Eras Tour tickets.
Latin America
After the Eras Tour tickets went on sale in Latin America, the turn-out of Swifties in demand of the tickets greatly surpassed the available tickets thereby making it hard to satisfy all the people in the queue and also those with access to the presales account.
Media outlets reported that more than 1 million Latin Americans queued for the 24k available tickets. The CEO of the promotion company tasked with promoting the Eras Tour in Argentina, Finkelstein, described the event as, “Unprecedented.”
It was later stated that Taylor Swift would’ve filled certain stadiums 36 times, if she wanted to, due to the turn-out of events after the tickets were opened for sale. This caused Ticketmaster, which was in charge of distributing the tickets in Latin America, to make provisions for more tickets.
The process of acquiring tickets physically eventually became a hectic process after a lot of people began camping outside some Eras Tour concert venues, with the hope of getting tickets to the shows which were slated to commence on the 12th of June in that region.
In the end, due to the number of people who couldn’t get access to tickets, more than a million people had to queue for the Eras Tour tickets general sale, after the presale for Mastercard holders sold out in less than 30 minutes of its availability.
Asia-Pacific
Swifties in Asia-Pacific also didn’t have it easy, especially for the fact that there was only 1 way to access the Eras Tour tickets there, through Ticketek. The event was also immediately tagged, “Unprecedented,” after more than 1 million fans signed up to access the Eras Tour tickets presales account.
Singaporean cardholders also had early access to the Eras Tour tickets, which went on sale on the 5th of July, while the general sales started on July 7th with more than 22 million people signing up for the 330k tickets that were made available at that time.
The Eras Tour also affected the Singaporean economy in the sense that; when United Overseas Bank cardholders were given early access to the tickets, it made a lot of people in their millions, who didn’t have the card, begin requesting it, so they could register for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour tickets.
The surge in ticket demand eventually caused Ticketek’s website to crash within 30 minutes of activity. Later on, the Australian government boasted of declining more than 500 million attempts to purchase tickets by bots to resell them to Swifties.
Europe
In Europe, regular tickets sold out within two and a half hours of availability. Though Ticketmaster tried to ensure everyone got tickets, some venues, like the officials of Wembley Stadium reported that the demand for tickets was like nothing they had ever seen before, making it hard to meet everyone’s requests and that the waiting time for people in the queue was longer than usual, but people kept waiting.
Back in France, they recorded the first time millions of people patiently waited in virtual queues just so they could subscribe to the mailing list, which would then give them access to the Eras Tour tickets site.
The Eras Tour tickets also broke a record in Austria, after 170k tickets, meant for the 3 concerts in Vienna, sold out in a couple of hours. In Germany, more than 3 million people virtually queued for the Eras Tour tickets, with more than 600k registering for the Warsaw concerts.
Ireland was one place to have had it easy with the issue of bots and reselling of tickets, as the act has been tagged illegal there. Therefore, there were no reports of bots and reselling of the Eras Tour tickets from there. When the tickets went on sale to the general public, more than 500k people registered for the concerts in Dublin alone.
The tickets sold out in a minute, forcing other fans who couldn’t get access to the show there to travel elsewhere for the Eras Tour concerts.
