Oppenheimer and Poor Things dominate the Oscar nominations as Barbie gets snubbed
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the nominees for the 96th Oscars, with the announcement made by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. Oppenheimer and Poor Things came out tops, while Barbie has surprisingly trailed behind in nominations.
In the Best Actor category, the nominees include Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction. The Supporting Actor category sees Sterling K Brown for American Fiction, Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Robert Downey Jr for Oppenheimer, Ryan Gosling for Barbie and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things all vying for the award.
Leading ladies nominated for their performances include Annette Bening in Nyad, Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller in Anatomy of a Fall, Carey Mulligan in Maestro and Emma Stone in Poor Things. The Supporting Actress category features Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, America Ferrera for Barbie, Jodie Foster for Nyad and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.
Animated Feature Film nominees are The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki, Elemental by Peter Sohn and Denise Ream, Nimona by Nick Bruno, Troy Quane, Karen Ryan and Julie Zackary, Robot Dreams by Pablo Berger, Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé and Sandra Tapia Díaz, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse by Kemp Powers, Justin K Thompson, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal.
Contenders for Best Picture include American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest.
