Raye lands a record-breaking seven nods as BRIT Awards 2024 nominees announced

In an exciting reveal that streamed across social platforms, the nominees for the prestigious BRIT Awards 2024 were announced in a special 30-minute show titled Bring on The BRITs with Mastercard: The 2024 Nominations. Hosted by Yinka Bokinni and featuring guest appearances from some of the nominated artists and broadcaster Jack Saunders, the announcement set the stage for an enthralling ceremony.

RAYE stands out as the most nominated artist this year, setting a record with seven nominations – the highest for a single artist in BRITs history. She is followed by six-time winner Dua Lipa, who has secured three nominations and is the first confirmed performer for the main event.

Central Cee and J Hus, each with four nominations, and several other artists, including Arlo Parks, Dave, Fred again.., Jessie Ware, Little Simz and Olivia Dean, join the coveted Artist of the Year category. The Mastercard Album of the Year category features nominees like Blur, Little Simz and Young Fathers, each with three nominations.

The International Artist of the Year category showcases a stellar line-up, including Asake, Burna Boy, Caroline Polachek, CMAT, Kylie Minogue, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA and Taylor Swift.

The BRITs 2024 also marks a special moment for The Rolling Stones, receiving their first nomination in over a decade.

In a joint statement, Dr Jo Twist OBE and YolanDa Brown OBE DL from BPI expressed their delight at the strong representation of women in this year’s nominations and the diversity in the lineup.

This year’s winners will receive a unique award, crafted by the talented visual artist Rachel Jones. The grand event is scheduled for 2nd March at The O2 arena and will be broadcast live.

2024 marks a significant change in the BRITs, with an expansion in the Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year categories, now featuring ten nominees each. This move, promoting greater inclusion and representation, has led to over half of this year’s nominees being women, either as solo artists or part of all-women groups. The figure rises even higher when considering women in mixed-gender groups.

Furthermore, a new genre award category, R&B Act, debuts this year. This addition, along with Alternative/Rock Act, Dance Act, Pop Act, and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act, celebrates the diversity and creativity of the UK music scene. The winners of these genre awards will be chosen through a public vote on Instagram, adding a layer of fan engagement to the proceedings.

It was also emphasised that the BRITs Voting Academy, responsible for determining the nominees, has achieved a balanced representation in terms of gender and ethnicity, ensuring the awards reflect the diversity of the music industry.

This year, the BRITs are also partnering with Music Declares Emergency to promote the NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign, emphasising the music industry’s role in climate action.

With such a diverse array of talent and groundbreaking changes, the BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard promises to be an unforgettable night, celebrating the best in music while pushing the boundaries for a more inclusive and representative industry.
