Manic Street Preachers to celebrate Lifeblood anniversary with special release and summer tour
Manic Street Preachers have announced the release of a 20th Anniversary Edition of their seventh studio album Lifeblood, due out on 12th April 2024 through Sony Records. This special edition will feature remastered tracks, b-sides, demos, outtakes, new liner notes by John Harris and previously unseen pictures by Mitch Ikeda. Fans can expect two new remixes of the lead track 1985 from Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree and Welsh artist Gwenno in the CD and digital versions. The band has also confirmed a summer co-headlining tour with Suede.
Lifeblood, described by bassist Nicky Wire as their “most estranged album of all”, reflects the band’s introspective phase, drawing inspiration from 1980s cerebral electronic pop influences. The album, originally released in 2004, is remembered for singles like The Love of Richard Nixon and Empty Souls, both making impressive chart entries. The album’s production journey saw them collaborate with iconic figures such as Tony Visconti and Greg Haver, and finishing touches by mix engineer Tom Elmhirst.
The reissue will be available in multiple formats including a CD, a three-CD bookset, double vinyl, double coloured vinyl, limited artwork prints and digital formats. The Manics are concurrently working on their 15th studio album, following the chart-topping The Ultra Vivid Lament from 2021. Last year, the band delivered acclaimed performances at Isle of Wight and Glastonbury festivals.
Tickets for the upcoming tour are available through Gigs and Tours and Ticketmaster UK, with dates spanning from late June to mid-July across the UK and Ireland. Venues include the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, Eden Sessions and Cardiff Castle, among others.
The Lifeblood 20th Anniversary Edition promises to be a comprehensive retrospective for fans, encompassing a broad range of material from the Manic Street Preachers’ storied career.
