Sadie Clark brings bisexual Bridget Jones into the digital age with Algorithms at Park Theatre
From 16th April to 11th May 2024, Park Theatre will stage the return of Algorithms, the witty and poignant one-woman show written and performed by Sadie Clark. Following successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Pleasance London and Soho Theatre, as well as an award-winning adaptation into an Audible Original series, the play is set to captivate audiences once again.
Directed by Madelaine Moore, Algorithms follows Brooke, a dating app coder who, on the cusp of her 30th birthday, finds herself unexpectedly single. In a quest for love that resonates with anyone who’s navigated the murky waters of online dating, Brooke turns to the very algorithms she’s crafted. Described as the bisexual Bridget Jones of our time, the play humorously yet touchingly explores the themes of mental health, body image, and the struggle for genuine connection in an era where it’s supposed to be easier than ever.
Sadie Clark, who reprises her role, shares her personal connection with the piece, having penned it during a period of online dating fatigue and a newfound bisexual identity. Her work has earned her recognition as one of the Guardian’s “12 Theatre Stars of 2020” and she continues to develop exciting projects across theatre, TV and radio.
Director Madelaine Moore brings her award-winning expertise and passion for challenging traditional gender narratives to the production. Her previous credits include notable works such as Ladykiller and FATTY FAT FAT.
Algorithms promises an evening of laughter, introspection and a fresh take on the romantic comedy genre, tailored for the modern audience. The show runs for 60 minutes without an interval and is recommended for ages 14 and up, with a content warning for strong language, sexual nature, body dysmorphia and flashing lights.
