How to arrange the wardrobe to make dressing simpler
Do you have trouble choosing an outfit for the day, sometimes spending long minutes sifting through your closets to find the right set of clothes to wear? If so, you are like many people who don’t think to organise their wardrobe or who don’t know how to organise it effectively.
If you are smart about arranging your closet, you can make dressing for the day very simple and quick. You can spend less time contemplating your fashion choices and more time on other preparations for the day. Here is how you do that.
Organise for the style
You know what your style is and how you like to dress, and with that in mind, you will want to organise your clothing accordingly. Plan outfits based on what you might want to wear for the next day. Maybe you haven’t made your mind up yet, but your closet can help you. What we mean by this is that you could arrange your clothing in such a way that your favourite outfits are already paired together. You hang your favourite skirt with its matching blouse and your go-to dress with a jacket that works well with it.
Organising your closet this way may help you cut down on preparation time in the morning. If you have outfits already paired together, you can quickly sort between different outfits in the closest without ever having to take them out and lay them out. This saves tons of time and gives you more time to put on makeup, eat your breakfast, and do other essentials in the morning.
Arrange by colour
Perhaps you choose your outfits based on the colour you feel like wearing for the day. That’s a great way to arrange your closet, and you can sort clothes by matching colours. Putting all of the red clothes together and all of the green ones side by side helps you put together matching outfits very quickly. This is slightly different from arranging by outfits and your own style, and it helps you to pick from a variety of outfits amazingly fast so that you are not wasting time on making hard choices. This method cuts down on your options to give you a few key choices that can be made quickly and easily.
Arrange seasonally
As you are organising and cleaning your closet space, perhaps with the help of professional cleaning services, you can sort your clothes into seasonal sections. Why would you spend any amount of time looking through your summer clothes in the dead of winter? That is just wasted time, and it would mean you are looking through selections that you would not possibly wear for a while. It makes sense to arrange your closet by season, and then perhaps break it down further from there to arrange each season by colour or style.
By placing all of your winterwear together, you will make it so simple to find the clothes you need in that season. Putting each season’s clothes together takes away some of the stress and frustration of picking out an outfit and cuts down the amount of time you spend in the closet.
Have a space for “still clean” clothes
Are there sometimes clothes that you put on just briefly and plan to wear them again before they go into the laundry cycle? These are your “wear again” clothes or “still clean” clothes. You will want to put them someplace where they can be out of the way but not mixed in with the other clothes.
If they get mixed in, you can lose them, and they can contaminate the other clothes with the particles or germs that are on them. If you store them outside the closet, you can end up making your home look untidy, with clothes hanging on furniture and exercise equipment and wherever you can find space.
We suggest leaving a couple of hangers or hooks to one far end of the closest for these clothes. If you sort through the closet from left to right looking for clothes to wear, then put these still clean clothes on the far left, so that way you will see them first. Or, you can have designated hooks for them behind your door or on the wall so that they are easy to set to the side and find again when you are ready to wear them. These may be outer clothes like a jacket or sweater that would not get dirty or sweaty easily with one wear but that are not so clean you want to put them back in with all of the other clothes.
Hang some, fold some
There are some clothes that will need to be hung in the closet and others that will be fine to place into drawers folded up. How do you decide which clothes go where? The clothes that can fold up are those that will not lose their shape when folded. You should hang up anything that will easily get wrinkled if you fold it, and that will save you from having to do extensive ironing when you are ready to wear it.
Also hang any clothes that need space to breathe or that might be easily crushed or damaged when stuffed into a drawer. It also makes sense to hang any clothes you will be using multiple days in a row or that you wear often. This way, they are easy to find and can be taken off hangers and then put back very quickly and easily. In a drawer, they might become lost or might take longer to remove and replace.
With these factors in mind, you can sort through your clothes and place them into the closet or into the drawers as needed.
We hope this article has been helpful in giving you some ideas for how to arrange your clothes in a way that makes sense and that is convenient for you.
