Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver: On the red carpet with Zack Snyder, Sofia Boutella and costars at the London premiere
In the much-anticipated sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, Zack Snyder’s mega-budget sci-fi saga picks up where the last ended. Now the scene has been set for his otherworldly universe, this second chapter dives into a more out-and-out war movie, with high-octane action sequences, while also delving deeper into the various characters’ backstories and the sacrifices they must make in their rebellion against the Motherworld.
The Upcoming had the chance to hear from the visionary director and producer duo, Deborah and Zack Snyder, on the red carpet at the London premiere, who gave us a glimpse into part two of their original sci-fi epic and its transition into a full-blown war film, delving deeper into character backgrounds and the village’s culture. They also mentioned an R-rated cut with more content, the challenges and joys of working with a fantastic cast over an extended period and the unique experience of integrating personal elements, like planting actual wheat for authenticity, into the filmmaking process.
Sofia Boutella stopped to chat about playing protagonist Kora in chapter two of Snyder’s space opera, including the seamless continuation from the first film, the deeper exploration of characters and more intense action sequences. She expressed excitement for the release and the unique experience of shooting both parts back-to-back. Boutella also touched on the joy of working with the stunt team and director, praising his distinct style and enthusiasm. She reflected on the sci-fi genre’s appeal due to its blend of entertainment, escape and emotionally relatable characters. Looking ahead, Boutella mentioned her next project with Peter Greenaway and her appreciation for every role shaping her career.
Staz Nair spoke about why he loves Zack Snyder’s moviemaking and the allure of the R-rated version for a grittier dive into the narrative. Nair also shared his own personal growth from hardships to Hollywood success, and the joy he finds in storytelling.
Stuart Martin detailed the storyline’s continuation with heroes returning to Val to confront Noble, believed dead. He highlighted the sequel’s war theme, the comprehensive character development and praised working with Zack Snyder and the cast. Martin also teased the R-rated version, expressing excitement for its darker, alternate universe portrayal.
Fra Fee chatted about the conclusion of Kora’s story, the deeper exploration of characters and the reasons behind their rebellion in this second chapter. Shooting back-to-back, he enjoyed watching the feature in chronological order and expressed excitement for the R-rated version, noting its depth and darkness compared to the PG-13 cut. He praised co-star Boutella as a powerful female lead, the film’s potential to inspire audiences with its original sci-fi story and the reflection of human issues through a distant universe setting.
Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson discussed his role as Haen, highlighting the film’s intensified action and deeper character development. He expressed excitement about seeing it and praised director Snyder’s energy and distinctive style, especially in handling the picture’s vast scale and challenging conditions.
