Luxury and fantasy redefined at The Sanderson hotel in London
Tucked away amidst the bustling streets of London’s West End, The Sanderson hotel blends whimsical Nineties nostalgia with a modern-day sophistication and elegance to create a space that is both visually stunning and incredibly inviting.
With an unassuming exterior on Berners Street, once guests step behind the cream drapes, they are warmly welcomed into the hotel lobby to find a mix of striking artwork and avant-garde furniture, including Salvador Dali’s iconic red-lips sofa. With lavish interiors conceived by the renowned Philippe Starck, it is the perfect introduction to the distinctive design that seeps into every part of this 5* boutique hotel.
While downstairs is bright and airy, the mood shifts as you head upstairs in the celestial-themed lift in search of your accommodation. There are 150 rooms and suites to choose from, including loft suites complete with their own spacious and furnished terraces overlooking the London skyline – a real selling point in a city as tight on space as this one.
The floor-to-ceiling windows offer incredible views, with sleek floor-length drapes giving the room a playful and sophisticated feel, in a nod to the downstairs lobby. Beautifully renovated and designed by Tim Andreas of Banjo, Starck’s original vision still shines through with a modern open plan layout that sees the sumptuous silver sleigh bed take centre stage. While the velvet sofa, free-standing bathtub, see-through glass shower, sleek chrome fittings and giant floor-length mirrors guarantee guests unrivalled comfort and style.
The room is filled with thoughtful details to ensure guests have everything they could desire, like the Lavazza coffee machine, Malin+Goetz toiletries and 300 thread count linens to truly make it feel like a home from home.
When it comes to food, dinner is served at the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant and includes classic dishes like chicken caesar salad, ribeye steak and homemade focaccia. Guests can also enjoy a delicious breakfast and Mad Hatter’s afternoon tea, available seven days a week, and as the name suggests, inspired by the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland. Here, the menu pays homage to the classic tale with smoked salmon sandwiches like The Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts Madagascan vanilla cheesecake. It’s so beautifully designed and presented you almost won’t want to eat it!
Arguably one of the hotel’s most notable features is the 80ft Long Bar, which nearly runs the entire length of the downstairs. Here, not only will you find a tasty selection of late-night bites but a standout menu of mouth-watering cocktails, too. DJs take over at the weekend, amplifying the party atmosphere and making this the place to be and be seen.
If that wasn’t enough, guests can enjoy the much-loved Purple Bar which has recently been renovated and relaunched. Open only on Thursdays, the vibe here is strictly sexy with its violet walls and bejewelled ceilings creating an intimate and chic space perfect for a late-night rendezvous.
In the heart of London’s entertainment district, Fitzrovia, The Sanderson is one hotel that is sure to keep you entertained. If you’re looking for a fun, stylish and playful hotel which has refined luxury and impeccable customer service at its core, then this is the place to be.
