Coraline: On the red carpet with Terri Hatcher, Chris Butler and Leigh Francis at the London premiere
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the animated stop-motion dark fantasy film Coraline, created by Henry Selick and adapted from the novella of the same name by Neil Gaiman, is a remastered 3D release of the production that aims to reach new audiences, touch the hearts of previous fans and unveil the stunning work produced by LAIKA studios.
The story follows a young girl called Coraline (Dakota Fanning) who moves from her home to a new neighbourhood with her career-driven parents Mel (Terri Hatcher) and Charlie (John Hodgman). As she explores their new home, she discovers a hidden door that opens to an alternate universe, where button-eyed parents lavish her with attention and love. The story then takes a darker turn when all is not what it seems, and as it unravels on screen, we see the results of the stunning set design, miniature house models and hugely invested-in animation creativity that brings audiences this visually unique fantasy film.
The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Hatcher about what the film is all about and the different aspects of the role that she got to play as a voice actor for the project.
Chris Butler about working on this film as Storyboard Supervisor, the unique elements of creating this production and the joy of creating animation.
Leigh Francis who attended this special premiere spoke to us about how Coraline was a favourite amongst his family’s film choices and about loving weird fantasy films.
Ezelle Alblas
Coraline is released in select cinemas on 15th August 2024.
