Vevo and J Balvin release exclusive live performance in Mexico City’s historic centre

Vevo, the prominent music video network, has teamed up with Colombian reggaeton superstar J Balvin for the exclusive release of his live performance of Ganster. This release is part of Vevo’s Official Live Performance series and coincides with Balvin’s latest album, Rayo. The performance was filmed in the historic centre of Mexico City, El Centro, known for its deep cultural and architectural heritage.

In this latest collaborative effort, Balvin worked closely with Vevo to create a unique setting that complements his musical style, utilising locally sourced materials and distinctive lighting to enhance the visual experience. The setting features a dimly-lit space, styled to resemble an underground lair, with Balvin dressed in all black, navigating a series of red-tinted columns.

JP Evangelista, Vevo’s SVP of Content, Programming and Marketing, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to partner with J Balvin for this very special performance of Ganster, in celebration of his new album, Rayo. We’ve had the privilege of amplifying Balvin’s creative vision for nearly a decade, and are so excited to further our collaboration by blending his culture-defining sound with the rich cultural and architectural history of Mexico City. By shooting this video in El Centro, we were able to capture the juxtaposition between the old and the new: the oldest part of the city, and the sound of J Balvin’s new music.”

Balvin, originally from Medellín, Colombia, has achieved significant success as a Latin music artist, with his videos accumulating over a billion views and maintaining a strong presence among the most globally streamed artists. His influence extends beyond music into fashion, art and philanthropy, consistently advocating for cultural representation and mental health awareness.
