“Queen of the Stage:” Five live acts that proved Shakira’s dominance in the music industry
Shakira became a global sensation in the music industry after dominating the Hispanic charts as a teenager. Her rise to fame was not an easy climb, but she managed to pull through, and today, she’s recognised worldwide as one of the most entertaining artists in the music industry.
The 47-year-old singer is on the verge of headlining her 7th career tour, intending to visit some cities in North America. At the moment, there’s the possibility of her updating the schedule of the tour to include some European cities. When that happens, the best place to get Shakira tickets would be an alternative marketplace with easier access.
A track record is only as interesting as the amazing story it carries, which is the case of Shakira. Even though she’s now a big name in the music industry, she had observed major failures with her debut and 2nd studio albums. But that experience couldn’t stop her from being consistent with her craft, this led her to become one of the most celebrated female artists worldwide.
Today Shakira has headlined 6 tours, with plans for the 7th already on the ground. As a result of this achievement, we now have 5 of the most glorious live acts that have contributed to proclaiming Shakira’s dominance in the music industry.
We’ll be looking at how ticket sales went for each of these tours, and the attendance recorded in them. Also, another interesting part of these tours that we’ll be looking at will be the revenue they generated – adding to Shakira’s net worth. We know that Shakira has an internet net worth of $300 million, making her one of the rich. Through her live performances, we’ll see how her music has contributed to this net worth. Let’s get to it.
Five live acts that proved Shakira’s dominance in the music industry
One beautiful thing about all the tours we’ll be looking at is that they showcase, precisely, Shakira’s journey to stardom. Shakira began headlining tours in 1996, 6 years after she became active in the music industry. At that time, she had dropped 3 studio albums, with 2 marked with early failure, and the 3rd one serving as the breakthrough for her in the music industry.
The “Tour Anfibio” – 2000
The “Tour Anfibio” for instance was organised by Shakira in 2000. It contained 20 shows altogether, scattered within South and North America – from 21st March to 12th May. The tour’s setlist had a total of 15 songs, including 2 encores. Most songs were from “Dónde Están los Ladrones?” which is her 4th career album in the music industry.
Shakira’s first tour, “Pies Descalzos International Tour (1996–1997)” created the experience she used in headlining the “Tour Anfibio” to perfection. The success she recorded amidst the tour paved further way for others.
The tour was criticised for having a short duration, lengthy delays, and overselling tickets in Guatemala. Shakira added more gigs as a result of the majority of her performances selling out fast. Following three completely booked shows at Luna Park, a fourth was added at Buenos Aires’ Campo Argentino de Polo, which drew 25,000 people.
The fact that it was her 2nd career tour, and she was already recording such success indicated a potential for greatness. The media knew at that moment that they had to watch Shakira closely, and she didn’t disappoint when the spotlight came to her.
The “Tour of the Mongoose” – 2002 To 2003
Following the success of her 2nd career tour, which saw her entertaining her fans in America only, Shakira decided to extend her magic to her fans in Europe, and also increase the number of gigs in her 3rd tour, The “Tour of the Mongoose,” which started on the 8th of November, and ended on the 11th of May with a total of 61 shows, broken into 4 different legs.
The “Tour of the Mongoose” was in support of Shakira’s 5th career album named, “Laundry Service,” which contributed greatly to her fame in the music industry. Not only did she increase the number of shows in the schedule, but she also increased the number of songs on the tour’s setlist to 18, compared to the 15 in her 2nd career tour.
An estimated 357,357 people attended the shows, all over the world. As for revenue, Shakira reportedly made over $18,039,079 – which is a huge amount in 2002/3. The tour came to Europe on 2 different occasions. The first was in December 2002, and the main started on the 28th of March, 2003.
The “Oral Fixation Tour” – 2006 To 2007
By the time Shakira headlined the “Oral Fixation Tour,” she was already being called the queen of Latin music. Her previously headlined tours gave her the appropriate experience to take things further, and the “Oral Fixation Tour” was the best place to start.
Shakira organised the “Oral Fixation Tour” on 5 different continents, including North and South America, and Africa – with a total of 119 shows, broken into 11 legs. To show that she meant business, Shakira made two albums, “Fijación Oral, Vol. 1,” and “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2” as the albums associated with the tour. At this point, you’re probably wondering how many songs were on the setlist.
She maintained an 18-song long setlist, but that was the most entertaining setlist ever because it was supported by 2 albums enriched with some of Shakira’s top-rated tracks like “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and “Underneath Your Clothes.”
$100 million was the reported revenue by Box Office, with more than 553,616 attending the shows, worldwide. At this point, Shakira wanted more, and she got it with the “Sun Comes Out World Tour.”
The “Sun Comes Out World Tour” – 2010 To 2011
The “Sun Comes Out World Tour” was like a prophecy defining the dominance of Shakira in the music industry, because it marked another breakthrough for her. From the time she announced when the tour would commence, and when ticket sales were to begin, it became the talk of town – leading to tickets being sold out in all venues.
As a result of this, she had to add more dates to include a lot of her fans in cities that weren’t included initially. Shakira took the “Sun Comes Out World Tour” to places like the UAE, Paris, Switzerland and Portugal. It had a total of 106 shows, spread across 5 continents, including Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The revenue generated by the “Sun Comes Out World Tour” toppled that of her previous tour, and so did attendance. Attendees of the “Sun Comes Out World Tour” confessed to witnessing an energetic performance from a female artist like they’ve never seen before. The set list contained 19 songs, including the popular “Waka Waka (Esto es África)” as it was supported by two albums, “She Wolf” and “Sale el Sol.”
The “El Dorado World Tour” – 2018
As an artist, first, it is about trying to see if you can do it. And then yes, you can. Then it transitions into having fun. And yes, you are having the desired fun. As you continue to build your experiences, and the quality of your music increases, you realise that you don’t need to go around the world when you can bring the world to you.
Having recorded so much success with her previously headlined tours, the “El Dorado World Tour” was time to take a step back and begin performing as the big dawg that she is. What did Shakira do? She reduced the number of shows in the “El Dorado World Tour” to just 54, scattered through Europe, Asia, and North and South America, and increased the number of songs on the set list to 20 songs.
The “El Dorado World Tour” was supported by one album, the “El Dorado,” which was her 11th career album. Revenue generated by the tour was estimated by Box Office to be $75 million, which shows a lot of difference when compared to her previously headlined tours, and the number of gigs in those tours.
