Wallows at Alexandra Palace
Wallows took to the stage at London’s Alexandra Palace on Tuesday as the last stop on this leg of their current “Model Tour”, which shares the name of their latest album, summoning thousands of people to the top of the hill overlooking the city below.
With the stage shrouded in a white sheet, the band started the night off with their song Do Not Wait, leading straight into Your Apartment as the sheet fell to reveal the musicians. Through the resounding screams that echoed the 10,000 cap great hall, Wallows continued on with Anytime, Always, and one of their most popular songs, Scrawny.
The night was a carefully curated setlist, bouncing from hit to hit. The room went wild at hearing the likes of OK, Quarterback, These Days and Uncomfortable. During She’s an Actress, one of the three Wallow boys, Dylan Minnette, jumped off the stage, walking through the packed crowd to reach a stage in the middle of the venue, his voice intertwining with the excited noise of his fans.
The rest of the band, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, later joined Minnette where the trio played three incredible tunes: Pictures of Girls, Drunk on Halloween and 1980s Horror Film. It was now time for Lemasters to trek through the sea of concertgoers to get back to the main stage, all while singing Going Under.
The fan interaction that Wallows always brings to their gigs is phenomenal, and the way the crowd reacts to any and every word, movement or gesture from the band solidifies that, really adding to the ambience that makes a Wallows gig.
As the set came to an end, the band played a crowd favourite, Pleaser, followed by Calling After Me, where frontman Minnettee held the entirety of Alexandra Palace in awe at his sultry and passionate performance, full of caressing the mic stand and even taking off his shirt.
The night ended in a haze of confetti and smoke with the most popular track that Wallows has ever put out, Are You Bored Yet?. With heartfelt goodbyes from the band, and an audience left in awe, thousands of people left to return to wherever they call home, where they surely wouldn’t forget the incredible show that was Wallows’s Model Tour 2024.
