The Jamie Lloyd Company has announced that £25 tickets for their upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, starring Sigourney Weaver, will be available exclusively for individuals under 30, key workers and those receiving government benefits. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the play will open at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 19th December 2024, with previews starting on 7th December, and will run until 1st February 2025.
This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to make theatre accessible to a wider audience. A total of 25,000 tickets will be offered at this reduced rate throughout the Shakespeare season at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, covering the first three levels of the theatre.
The Tempest features a prominent cast including Jude Akuwudike, Jason Barnett and Selina Cadell, with Sigourney Weaver making her West End debut in the role of Prospero. The production is enriched with the creative talents of set and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jon Clark, and sound designers and co-composers Ben and Max Ringham, alongside Michael “Mikey J” Asante. Movement direction is by Fabian Aloise, with Jonathan Glew serving as the associate director and text editor.
In addition to The Tempest, The Jamie Lloyd Company will also present Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Lloyd and starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell. This production will open on 19th February 2025, with previews from 10th February, and will run until 5th April 2025.
Theatre Royal Drury Lane, known for its significant £60 million restoration led by Andrew and Madeleine Lloyd Webber, provides a state-of-the-art venue that combines traditional theatre charm with modern amenities. The theatre, which is the oldest continuously used theatre site in the world, now offers a range of food, drink and cultural experiences in its Grade 1-listed Georgian interiors.
This initiative underscores The Jamie Lloyd Company’s dedication to diversity and accessibility in the arts, ensuring that Shakespeare’s works remain available and relevant to all sectors of society.
