The biggest hair trends to look out for in 2025

Sometimes there’s no better way to bring in a new year than with a fresh cut and colour. With the start of 2025 firmly upon us, the buzz surrounding new hair trends is louder than ever. From effortlessly chic colour to precision cuts, this year promises plenty of looks that are guaranteed to elevate your style.

To get the inside scoop on 2025’s biggest hair trends, we spoke with Marlon Hawkins, Artistic Director at London’s prestigious hair salon, Brooks & Brooks. Renowned for his artistry and creativity, Hawkins’ unique style of hairdressing has earned him international acclaim, with his work featured globally and his talent recently recognised at last year’s L’Oréal Colour Trophy when he won the London region award.

Trending colours

For the past year, some of the biggest hair colour trends have seen people embracing more natural, low-maintenance shades, which is something Hawkins predicts will only continue to gain momentum in 2025. Think honey blondes, rich chocolate brunettes, and auburn hues – tones that blend seamlessly with natural hair.

“As people continue to favour more practical beauty choices and embrace hair colour that works well with their natural tones, these trends are likely to evolve and incorporate even more customisable shades for that ‘effortless’ feel,” Hawkins explains.

Hawkins adds, “Natural luxe hair is all about condition and quality with a salon experience. The idea of maintaining low-maintenance styles without sacrificing flair seems poised to stay in the spotlight for 2025.”

As Pantene’s 2025 Colour of the Year, this warming, brown hue imbued with richness is expected to dominate hair salons over the coming months. The luxurious brown shade possesses an inherent depth and comforting warmth that is not only sophisticated but super wearable, too.

For those drawn to cooler tones, icy blondes continue to surge in popularity, exuding an edgy, high-fashion vibe. Expect to see a blend of pearly, creamy undertones this year to create an illuminative look that is universally flattering on all skin tones and hair textures.

As one of the more high maintenance trends, investing in your hair health is essential to ensure vibrancy between salon visits. “For me, hero products always start at condition and L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Molecular Shampoo and Serum never disappoint – super conditioning and hyper lightweight, they help ensure the hair’s condition, resulting in better hair quality and hair colour,” says Hawkins.

Nordic Brunettes

Taking inspiration from cool Scandinavian aesthetics, Nordic brunettes incorporate subtle ashy tones for a refined, modern look. This understated trend is ideal for those seeking something elegant without high-maintenance upkeep. To help maintain hair colour, opt for a semi-permanent hair gloss by celebrity colourist Josh Wood to boost vibrancy and add shine.

Trending cuts

Choosing a new haircut can be one of the quickest ways to transform your looks, and 2025 brings a variety of exciting options to suit every taste and lifestyle. From sleek, shorter styles to textured carefree layers, this year’s hottest haircuts focus on versatility, individuality and effortless styling.

Whether you’re after a bold change or a subtle upgrade, Hawkins believes the most important first step is working with your hairstylist to fully understand your hair needs and goals through an in-depth consultation. He adds, “There will always be a level of maintenance to any haircut, so you need to decide what to prioritise – style or lifestyle? Or both? This will completely change your approach, but ultimately, as a hairstylist you’re always looking to enhance people’s features to their full potential.”

Shorter Bobs

Sleek bobs remain a standout classic, but in 2025, they’re getting a chic update with even shorter, more angular styles. Hawkins explains, “Crop bobs and shorter bobs like those sported by Lily Allen are more androgynous cuts that still maintain a sense of freedom to give an ultra modern and super cool vibe.”

The beauty of these cuts is that they work well on most face shapes and deliver a clean aesthetic while offering people the flexibility to play with texture and finish. Ask your hairstylist for a sharp, one-length bob that grazes the jawline for a timeless silhouette that requires minimal styling to look polished.

Textured Layers

Textured layers continue to rule the runways and hair salons alike, and are perfect for those craving movement and volume. This haircut offers real versatility, either styled sleek and smooth for a sophisticated look or tousled for a more relaxed feel. Hawkins explains, “With longer hair, using razors or textured scissors helps to create delicate feathered layers that can lay flat like Kate Moss or be blown out for max volume.”

When it comes to styling, Hawkins shares his top recommendations. “L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Flex Pli Styling Spray is ideal for giving hold to any style, while Sam McKnight’s Happy Endings Nourishing Balm gives hair a luxe finish.”

Curtain Bangs

As the cool girl’s answer to effortless hair styling, curtain bangs have been having a renaissance that shows no signs of slowing down. This French-inspired style is perfect for framing the face and pairs beautifully with both shorter bobs and longer layered cuts. Think Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney for all the inspo you need.

Whether you’re looking to embrace new colours or experiment with innovative cuts, this year’s trends are all about celebrating individuality while prioritising hair health. As Hawkins concludes, “More so than ever, colour and cutting are in full collaboration. It’s about the person in your chair and bringing their hair dreams to life while maintaining the integrity of their own unique hair.”
