I Know What You Did Last Summer returns to UK cinemas with original stars and new cast this July

A new instalment in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is scheduled for release exclusively in UK cinemas on 18th July, Sony Pictures has announced. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and produced by Neal H Moritz, the film features a cast that includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, as well as original stars Freddie Prinze Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The release comes as the studio seeks to revive the popular horror series for a new generation of viewers.
The movie’s plot centres on a group of five friends who, after causing a fatal car accident, choose to conceal their involvement and make a pact to keep the incident secret. A year later, the consequences of their actions resurface when an unknown figure begins to stalk them, intent on revenge. According to the official synopsis, “As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the massacre of 1997 for help.” This reference connects the new film to the original 1997 movie, which starred Prinze Jr and Hewitt.
The newly released trailer provides a glimpse of the tense atmosphere and suspenseful narrative that the franchise is known for. The inclusion of original cast members is likely to appeal to fans of the first film, while the introduction of a new ensemble aims to attract a younger audience.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for her work on contemporary dramas and thrillers, directs this iteration, marking a shift towards a modern interpretation of the classic story. The film is produced by Neal H Moritz, who has a long-standing association with the franchise.
